To the distinguished chassid* who has yiras Shamayim*, Rav Mordechai HaKohen,

Greetings and blessings,

I received in its time your blessing on the occasion of my birthday[1]. Whoever bestows a blessing is himself blessed, by the blessing of the Holy One, blessed be He, whose interest surpasses the principal and brings a complete and pleasant life, the calm of mind and body.

Chassidus* clearly underscores the quality of the merchant, which is twofold.

First, he conducts business honestly[2] and he accumulates positive accomplishments in the area of tzedakah*[3].

Furthermore, he sets a fixed time for the study of Torah, despite the constraints of commerce and business. Certainly, his study is shortened compared with that of the man who dedicates himself to it throughout the day. He pursues it, nevertheless, by tearing himself away from his professional activity, and from this point of view, it is very precious.

You no doubt have yourself a fixed time to study Torah, not only its legal aspect, but also Chassidus*. May you thus open the channel that will bring you success in your affairs and all good, material and spiritual.

Enclosed you will find the kuntres* edited on the occasion of Lag BaOmer*, which has just appeared.

לאחר שנפגשנו בבית המדרש ,לא היתה לי אפשרות לראותו פעם
נוספת] ,לכן[ הנני כותב לו כעת ושולח ברכתי לבתו ולחתנו יחיו ,שיהי׳ לכם
נחת מנכדכם ובנם . . .שי׳ ותגדלוהו לתורה לחופה ולמעשים טובים.
ובעמדנו לפני חג השבועות ,זמן מתן תורתנו ,מובא במדרש שהשי״ת
ביקש ערבות ,ורק לאחר שבני ישראל נתנו ערבות :הילדים שלהם יקיימו
את התורה ,אז השי״ת הסכים לתת לישראל את התורה הקדושה.
וזה צריך להיות מוסר השכל לכולנו ,שכ״א שרוצה לקבל את התורה כמו
שצריך ,עליו להשתדל שהילדים והנכדים שלו ,וגם ילדים של יהודים אחרים,
יתחנכו בדרך התורה ,ולסייע למוסדות ולכל אלו שמתעסקים בחינוך הכשר
של ילדי ישראל בנים או בנות שיהיו יהודים טובים ויראי שמים.
בברכת חג שמח ופ״ש לחתנו ובתו יחיו בברכת מזל טוב.
