To the distinguished chassid* who has yiras Shamayim*, Rav Shmuel[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I had your news in its time, with pleasure, through the Rav, distinguished chassid* who has yiras Shamayim* and dedicates himself to communal needs, Rav Eliyahu Simpson[2]. He told me that you evoked the memories of bygone days, the luminous days, when you were a student in the cheder* attached to the yeshiva* in Lubavitch.

You no doubt know the saying that my father-in-law, the Rebbe, brought down in the name of the holy Baal Shem Tov*. Every event concerning a Jew is an effect of Divine Providence and is in no way the result of chance.

The fact that you met one another, that you were able to converse, was assuredly willed by Providence. I hope that positive consequences will result from it, not only for Rav Eliyahu Simpson, but also for yourself. I see proof of this in the closeness that flows from it to the source of life of all Jews, that is to say, Torah and mitzvos*.

Those who had the merit to know the clarity of Chassidus* and chassidic practices feel enthusiasm to do good to their fellow, to study a passage of Chumash*, of Ein Yaakov, of Tanya*, and of the sefarim* of Chassidus*.

When one accomplishes all this, even if only one time, one keeps its trace throughout one's life. Everything depends on one's motivation. Whoever wishes will succeed, without doubt.

Enclosed you will find the sicha* given on Lag BaOmer* by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, which has just appeared. Its reading will surely do you much good.

I hope to have your good news, and I conclude by extending to you my blessing, as well as to the members of your family,

הרי הוא בהשגחה פרטית - ,לא מקרה

ודאי הוא ,שזה שהשי״ת זימן ואתם נפגשתם והתוועדתם ,תקותי

שהשפיע לטובה לא רק על הרב ר׳ אלי׳ סימפסון שי׳ אלא גם עליכם ,והראי׳

לכך היא ,שהדבר פועל התקרבות למקור החיים של כל היהודים ,שזה הוא

תורה ומצוות.

ואלו שזכו להוודע גם מאור החסידות ,ומההנהגה של דרכי החסידות,

יש להם חמימות בעשיית טובה ליהודי ,וגם חמימות בלימוד פרשה חומש,

עין יעקב גמרא ,תניא וספרי חסידות ,שכל הדברים הללו ,העושה אותם

]אפילו[ פעם אחת ,נותר ]מכך[ רושם על כל החיים ,והדבר תלוי אך ורק

ברצון ,וכשירצה ודאי יוכל.
