To the great Rav, who has considerable renown, is an immense scholar, has good conduct, dedicates himself faithfully to communal needs, and who has yiras Shamayim*, Rav Avraham Yitzchak[1],

Greetings and blessings,

The distinguished chassid* who has yiras Shamayim* and dedicates himself to communal needs, Rav Moshe Leib Rodstein[2], spoke to me of you, of your actions to strengthen Yiddishkeit* in your city in general, of your participation in the work of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, and in his holy institutions in particular. I learned with satisfaction that you will pursue your efforts in this matter, despite the great loss which has struck the Jewish people, that of its captain, my father-in-law, the Rebbe.

To be more precise, one should not say "despite the loss." On the contrary, after this loss the obligation falls still more clearly on each one of us to hold firm in the face of veils and trials, in particular in the face of this one. For the histalkus* of tzaddikim* is more painful than the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash*.

In these days of profound darkness, when light is passed off as dimness and dimness as light, each of us receives, much more clearly, the duty and the merit of remaining faithful at his post. Whoever exerts an influence on his surroundings, in particular a Rav and leader of a kehilla*, must strive to strengthen Yiddishkeit* and to spread Torah.

We have received the assurance that the one who multiplies his efforts will obtain increased blessings. This means, in particular, that by redoubling one's ardor for everything concerning Torah and mitzvos*, one receives more and more strengths to progress in this matter. This concerns particularly the heads of the people, the rabbanim* of the kehillos*, on whom public merit depends, who must guide as many as possible on the way of Hashem.

May Hashem grant that you fulfill long your sacred mission, in calm and expansiveness, that you lead your kehilla* in peace. Now, there is no peace but the Torah, and our Sages, in tractate Sanhedrin 99b, teach that "one who studies Torah lishmah* establishes peace in the heavenly and earthly hosts" and atones for the faults of the many people whose hearts he brings closer to our Father Who is in Heaven.

Enclosed you will find the kuntres* edited on the occasion of Lag BaOmer*, which appeared recently, with a copy of the collective letter that accompanies it[3]. I have good hope that this will interest you.

With my blessing that you may know success in your sacred mission and all good in your personal affairs,

רבות שמעתי אודותו מהרה"ח הנו"נ אי"א עוסק בצ"צ כו' וכו' מוה"ר משה ליב שי' ראדשטיין, ע"ד פעולותיו בהחזקת היהדות בעירו בכלל, וביותר מהשתתפותו בעניני כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע ומוסדותיו הק' בפרט, ונהניתי לשמוע אשר גם מכאן ולהבא ישתדל בזה, למרות האבדה הגדולה שאבד עם ישראל - הוא קברניטו הוד כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.

ויותר נכון, לא למרות האבדה, אלא אדרבה, שאחר האבדה הגדולה, הנה גדלה כמה פעמים האחריות המוטלת על כל אחד ואחד מאתנו, להחזיק מעמד ביתר שאת נגד כל ההעלמות וההסתרים, ובפרט העלם והסתר זה, אשר קשה סלוקן של צדיקים יותר מחורבן ביהמ"ק אשר זה מחייב ומזכה את כאו"א כמכירים בצרכי עם ישראל, ובפרט בימי החשך כפול ומכופל אשר שמים אור לחשך וחשך לאור, לעמוד חזקה על משמרתו, וכל אחד שיש לו השפעה על סביבה מסויימה ובפרט רב ומנהיג קהלה, עליו להשתדל ביותר בחיזוק היהדות ובהפצת התורה

וכבר הובטחנו, שכל המוסיף מוסיפים לו, אשר אחד הפירושים בזה הוא, שכל המוסיף כח בעבודתו בתורה ומצות, מוסיפים לו כח ויכולת לילך בזה מחיל אל חיל, ובפרט ראשיכם לשבטיכם - רבני הקהלות, שזכות הרבים תלוי בהם לנחותם בדרך העולה בית א-ל.

יתן השי"ת ויאריך ימים על משמרתו משמרת הקדש במנוחה ובהרחבה, וינהג את עדתו בשלום, ואין שלום אלא תורה, כמרז"ל (סנהדרין צט, ב) כל העוסק בתורה לשמה משים שלום בפמליא של מעלה ובפמליא של מטה, ורבים ישיב מעון לקרב את לבם לאבינו שבשמים.
