Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1037 — Health

Volume 4 · Letter 273

By the grace of Hashem,
1 Sivan 5711,
Brooklyn,

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of the thirty-eighth day of the Omer*. When I was, yesterday[1], near the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, I mentioned your name that you may obtain healing. I hope that you will give me good news in this matter.

You conclude your letter by asking me to lead you toward a true teshuvah*, at least toward teshuvah tata'ah*. To the same question, I responded to a chassid* that we find ourselves in the period of the heel and even the "heel of the heel" of Mashiach*.

My father-in-law, the Rebbe, said and repeated, on numerous occasions, that very few things remain to be accomplished. Moreover, one knows how to bring about the coming of Mashiach*. For this, one must spread the wellsprings of Chassidus* to the outside. You will therefore yourself assume this mission, for one must be able to find, in Yerushalayim*[2], persons who still find themselves "on the outside."

You will therefore warm them and illuminate them with the warm light of Chassidus*. It is in this manner that one makes the darkness disappear. If one has had inadequate thoughts, words, and actions, one can also remove them in a positive manner — for example, by having tears of joy, as is explained regarding the verse "let your tears flow like a river." You will also consult the Divrei Chaim, in chapter 11.

As for the understanding and the feelings that one should not have had, one can remove them by the three loves — that of Hashem, that of Torah, and that of one's fellow. By studying Torah, in particular its luminary — that is, Chassidus* — one transforms darkness into light.

It seems difficult to me to intervene, finding myself here, in the affairs of the Kollel*[3] to ask that one allot a pound[4] per month to your grandson. Instead of that, I send you a voucher to receive a package.

I conclude by addressing to you my blessing for a prompt recovery and that you may give me good news of your state of health, of your personal concerns, and of what is happening among the chassidim* in general.

With my blessing for you to receive the Torah with joy and depth,
