To the Rav, distinguished chassid* who has yiras Shamayim* and dedicates himself to communal needs, Rav Shlomo Zalman[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of erev Shabbos*, regarding the soldier[2], Mr. ..., who has just returned to Chicago and has been hospitalized, having been wounded in the left arm.

As far as I remember, before he left[3], last summer, I asked you to explain to him the importance of putting on tefillin*[4]. You will ask him whether he did so, for this is directly linked to the state of his left arm.

If he did not, chas v'shalom*, he will take, as quickly as possible, the firm decision to observe, in the most scrupulous manner, as soon as he is recovered, the mitzvah* of tefillin* and Shabbos*. I hope to receive good news[5] in this matter.

With my blessing, for you and for all the members of your family, to receive the Torah with joy and depth, and with good health,

קבלתי מכתבו מעש"ק ע"ד האיש חיל מר... שי' שחזר עתה לשיקאגא ונמצא בבית החולים כי נפצעה ידו השמאלית.

כפי זכרוני הנה קודם שנסע בקיץ העבר, הורתי לו שיזהר בהנחת תפילין, וצריך לברר אצלו אם מלא זאת, שזהו דבר התלוי בידו השמאלית ג"כ, ובאם ח"ו לא קיים זאת, אזי בהקדם היותר האפשרי צריך שיקבל ע"ע בהחלטה גמורה אשר תיכף בשובו לאיתנו יזהר בתכלית במצות הנחת תפילין ובשמירת הש"ק, ואקוה לשמוע בשורה טובה בזה.

בברכת קבלת התורה בשמחה ובפנימיות ובבריאות הנכונה לו ולכל ב"ב שי'.
