Thursday, 20 Shevat* 5699,
To the great scholar, Rabbi Yisrael Jacobson,
I greet you and bless you,
I have duly received your letter from the end of the month of Teves*. As you requested, I sent you a telegram on the day that I deposited the check for the amount of one thousand here. You have no doubt received it in due time.
Nevertheless, such an expense[1] is superfluous and without any justification, for, in general, every check that arrives here is presented for deposit the very next day, except, of course, if it is a Shabbos*. In the future, you will therefore be able to determine by yourself the date of deposit of the check.
The Torah* considers with frugality the possessions of Jews, whether they belong to an individual, to a community, or even to the Beis HaMikdash*. We must therefore do the same.
The checks of 78, 250, 18, and 250 arrived in due time. Likewise, I have already written to the Rashal*[2] that the 900 from Chicago were in my possession.
You will find enclosed a letter for the Rashal and I thank you in advance for kindly forwarding it to him.

מכתבו מסוף טבת הגיע, וכפי בקשתו טלגרפתי לו ביום נתתי את מחאת האלף לגבי' פה, ובודאי קבל במועדו.
אף שזהו הוצאה יתרה וללא תועלת כלל,י רובא דרובא, הרי למחרת יום התקבל המחאות פה, נותנים הם לגבי' (אם אינו יום השבת וכה"ג, וכמובן), ובמילא, על להבא, אפשר בנקל לשער יום מסירת המחאות לגוביינא. והתורה חסה על ממונן של ישראל הן של יחיד הן של ציבור הן של ביהמ"ק. ואנן נמי חסינן.
המחאות של ע"ח, ר"ן, י"ח, ר"ן בעתם נתקבלו. כן הודעתי מכבר - במכ' להררש"ל שי' - שהגיעו הט' מאות מטשיקאגא.
