Greetings and brachos*,

I received in due time your letter of 17[1] Teves. Finding myself near the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, I mentioned the name of your son and your own, as you asked me in your letter.

The sum enclosed with your correspondence has been transmitted to Kollel Chabad, which has surely already confirmed to you having received it. You will receive, a little later, the receipts from Eretz Yisroel, according to the list[2] that you transmitted. Great is your merit in having conducted an action in this domain, the importance of which is no longer to be defined, after that has been done by the king[3] — that is, by the Alter Rebbe, in Iggeres HaKodesh[4] and in many other texts.

All these references establish that such activity is the vehicle and the keli* eliciting the brachos of Hashem and permitting the integration of them — to obtain, in particular, good health, which permits fixing a time to study nigleh* of Torah and Chassidus*, with tranquility of mind and body.

Your doctor thinks it will take time. It is said, nevertheless, that "His word runs swiftly," particularly when it concerns tzedakah* and maasim tovim*. You will consult, on this subject, the Likkutei Torah at the end of Parshas Korach, and the Taamei HaMitzvos[5] of the Tzemach Tzedek, on the mitzvah of bircas kohanim*.

You ask me whether you should go to Rochester[6]. In my opinion, it is preferable to wait some time, in order to observe the effect that the treatment prescribed by the doctors of your city will have. If this proves effective, the trip to Rochester will be unnecessary.

בעתו קבלתי מכתבו מטו"ב טבת, וכשהייתי על הציון של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, הזכרתי את בנו שי' ואותו - כבקשתו במכתבו.

המוסגר במכתבו נמסר להכולל חב"ד, ובטח כבר קיבל אישור מהם, ובעתו הרי יגיע אליו ג"כ הקבלות מאה"ק ת"ו כפי הרשימה, ואשרי חלקו שעלה בידו לפעול ולעשות בענין זה, וגודל הענין אין צריך ביאור אחרי דברי המלך הוא רבינו הזקן באגרת הקדש שלו ועוד בכמה וכמה מקומות, וע"פ המבואר שם מובן אשר התעסקות בזה הוא ג"כ צנור וכלי להמשכת וקבלת ברכות השי"ת ובפרט לבריאות הנכונה שיוכל לקבוע עתים בתורת הנגלה ובתורת החסידות מתוך מנוחת הנפש ומנוחת הגוף.

ומ"ש הרופא שצריך הוא ע"ז משך זמן, הנה ידוע שעד מהרה ירוץ דברו ובפרט באלו השייכים לעניני צדקה וחסד, ועיין בלקוטי תורה ס"פ, קרח, ובספר טעמי המצות להצמח צדק מצות ברכת כהנים.

בענין שאלתו אם יסע לראטשעסטער וכו', הנה לדעתי יחכה איזה זמן כדי לבחון פעולת התרופות אשר נתנו לו הרופאים דמחנו, וכשיראה הטבה על ידם, הרי אז אין נצרכה הנסיעה לראטשעסטער.
