Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1438 — Health
Volume 5 · Letter 218
By the grace of Hashem,
First day of Rosh Chodesh Adar 5712,
Brooklyn,
I greet and bless you,
You write me that you will continue to provide for the elderly and unfortunate persons whom you regularly help. There is in this, without doubt, a great mitzvah. Nevertheless, the human body is composed of many limbs, and each of them must be in good health. Likewise, each constituent part of the neshamah* must be whole, and it is therefore not sufficient to give tzedakah*.
You must, in addition, learn Torah according to your possibilities. Each morning, after davening, you must read Tehillim* according to their monthly division. You must learn each day at least a few pesukim of the parshah of the week with the perush* of Rashi. I hope that in this area as well you will be able to convey to me good news.
With my brachah* of refuah sheleimah*,
