Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1568 — Faith & Bitachon

Volume 6 · Letter 40

By the grace of Hashem,

20 Iyar 5712,

Brooklyn,

Greetings and blessings,

The chassid*, Rav…, has informed me that you and your wife are not in very good health.

You should be certain that both of you will improve, all the more so as we are drawing near to the festival of Shavuos*, the time of the giving of our Torah. The Midrash* relates that, when the Torah was given, all were indeed in good health[1].

This once again proves that Hashem desires that one serve Him also physically[2], as the Baal Shem Tov* teaches, and not by mortifications. One must therefore conceive joy from this, be in good health, and devote oneself to the fulfillment of the Torah and the mitzvos*.

May Hashem help you to receive the Torah with joy and depth, in good health.

With my blessing,
