To the young man, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav Sholom Dov[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 16 Iyar, in which you inform me of your participation in the constitution of the unaffiliated stream[2]. In the meantime, my letter[2] in reply to that of the committee, setting out my opinion on its manner of working and on the organization of this network, has surely arrived at its destination. No doubt their action is being oriented in this direction.

I was particularly satisfied with your participation. I am hopeful that not only will your study of the Torah not be diminished by it, chas veshalom*, but that, in addition, the promise of the Alter Rebbe* — expressed at the beginning of Torah Or* — will be fulfilled in you, according to which participation in tzedakah*, material and a fortiori spiritual, makes one's brain and heart a thousand times more refined. The commentaries on this Chassidic maamar*, which are printed in the Likkutei Torah* on three parshiyos, specify that this number of a thousand is not an exaggeration, but should be interpreted in the most literal sense.

In other words, your study, which proceeds from your brain, will allow you to understand in one hour what would ordinarily have required a thousand hours. And so it will be with prayer and with ahavas Yisrael*, which depend on the heart and will likewise be a thousand times more refined.

In these days preceding the festival of Shavuos*, the time of the giving of our Torah, the effort to educate the children makes it possible to receive it with joy and depth, in the words of the blessing extended by my father-in-law, the Rebbe. For the Midrash Rabbah relates that they were the guarantors thanks to whom Hashem agreed to give the Torah to His people, Israel.

With my blessing for a joyous festival and to receive the Torah with yiras Shamayim*,

במענה על מכתבו מט"ז אייר, בו כותב ע"ד השתתפותו בהעבודה לארגן את הזרם בלתי זרמי, ובטח הגיע בינתים מכתבי, מענה על מכתב הועד אודות השקפתי בכיוון עבודתם וארגון רשת זו, ובודאי עסקנותם הוא בכיוון זה.

נהניתי בפרט מהשתתפותו בהנ"ל, ותקותי חזקה אשר לא לבד שלא יגרע עי"ז בת"ת שלו, אלא שתקוים בו הבטחת רבינו הזקן (תו"א בתחלתו) אשר ע"י עסק הצדקה (בגשמיות וא"כ כ"ש ברוחניות) נעשים מוחו ולבו זכים אלף פאמים ככה, וע"פ המבואר בהגהות לדרוש זה (הנדפסים בלקו"ת לג' פרשיות) הנה אלף פעמים אינו בדרך גוזמא אלא ממש אלף פעמים ככה, היינו שבשעה אחת מצליח בלימודו (מוחו) כמו שהי' מצליח ע"ד הרגיל במשך אלף שעה, וכן בעבודת התפלה ובאהבת ישראל (לבו) נעשה אלף פעמים זכים וכנ"ל.

ובימים האלו דערב חג השבועות זמן מתן תורתנו הבע"ל הנה כפי המסופר במד"ר, הערבים לקבלת התורה, שעי"ז החליט השי"ת לתת את התורה לעמו ישראל, היו דוקא התינוקות, ולכן פשיטא אשר ההתעסקות בחינוך תשב"ר היא המסייעת לקבלת התורה בשמחה ובפנימיות (כזה הי' לשון הברכה של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע בערבי חג השבועות).
