Greetings and blessings,

I reply to your letter of Sunday of Parshas Bamidbar. You tell me that the number of talmidim* is small and that you are seeking, by every means, to increase it.

Experience, including in countries very different from one another, has made it possible to establish that with the appropriate eagerness and the necessary constancy, the chassidim* have always managed to found their own educational institutions, with an ever-increasing number of talmidim*, on condition of not demobilizing, of not becoming discouraged before the difficulties, the veils, and the obstacles.

Relying on all this, I have good hope that, if you display, in your country, the same determination, you will know success, without any doubt, and you will multiply the talmidim*, first quantitatively, then qualitatively.

These days precede the festival of Shavuos*, the time of the giving of our Torah. Now, our Sages relate that the only guarantors that Hashem accepted for giving the Torah were the children. You and your friends will therefore also have the great merit of producing these guarantors, among the children of your city and your country.

Each one of us will have the merit of receiving the Torah with joy and depth, and of preserving it thereafter, throughout the year, so that the terms of the promise are realized according to which: "I will give your rains in their season."

במענה על מכתבו מיום א' במדבר... הנה מספר התלמידים מועט הוא ומחפשים עתה עצות ותחבולות כדי להרבות מספרם:

הנה כפי שהראה הנסיון עד עתה ובמדינות שונות אחת מחברתה, הרי במרץ הראוי ובעקשנות המתאימה הנה סו"ס הצליחו תמיד אנ"ש שי' לייסד מוסדות חינוך משלהם ובמספר תלמידים אשר הולך וגדול מזמן לזמן, ובלבד שלא יתנו מקום לרפיון ידים ולנפילת רוח מפני הקישויים ההעלמות וההסתרים, ונשען על זה הנה תקותי חזקה אשר באם יתנהגו במקומם עתה ג"כ בתוקף הנ"ל, בלי ספק יצליחו בריבוי כמות התלמידים ואח"כ גם בהגדלת איכותם...

ובימים האלו דלפני חג השבועות זמן מ"ת, שמסופר ברז"ל שלא קיבל הקב"ה ערבות עד שאמרו בנינו יהיו ערבים בעדנו, הנה יזכו גם הוא וחבריו... לזכות הגדולה דהמצאת ערבים אלו בין הנוער דעירם ומדינתם עתה, וכאו"א מאתנו יזכה לקבלת התורה בשמחה ובפנימיות ולהמשיכה אח"כ על כל השנה כולה, ובמילא - לקיום היעוד: ונתתי גשמיכם בעתם גו'.
