Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1604 — Faith & Bitachon
Volume 6 · Letter 76
By the grace of Hashem,
2 Sivan 5712,
Brooklyn,
Greetings and blessings,
I have indeed received your letters of 9/4 and 2/5, which were delayed, more than usual. I read in them with pleasure that your wife's pregnancy went well and that she gave birth to a son whom you named...
May Hashem grant that you and your wife educate him, as well as your firstborn son, to Torah, to the chuppah*, and to good deeds, in material plenty.
You state, in your letter, your worry about providing for your needs. You must therefore recall what our holy books say. The birth of a son introduces blessing into the home, including for satisfying its needs. To hasten the realization of this blessing, you must therefore strengthen your trust in Hashem, Who feeds each one and wishes to do so from His full Hand.
You must also recall another point. It is necessary to forge receptacles to contain the blessings of Hashem. In a general way, these are constituted by the Torah and the mitzvos*, in particular by giving to tzedakah*. If it seems that one is having difficulty earning one's living, one must give even more than before. Thus, one brings to Hashem the proof that one has a greater need to give tzedakah*. He will therefore grant increased means.
May Hashem grant that you and your wife strengthen your trust in Him. Very soon, you will witness the realization of His blessing and you will know material plenty.
I extend to you my blessing for good health for your wife and your children, as well as for a joyous festival of Shavuos*.
N.B.: You did not specify the destination of the money you sent me. I have therefore transmitted it to Merkaz LeInyanei Chinuch*, as a first installment for the Jewish education of the newborn, who will have long days and good years.
