Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1614 — Chinuch
Volume 6 · Letter 86
By the grace of Hashem,
3 Sivan 5712,
Brooklyn,
Greetings and blessings,
I received with pleasure your letter written at the conclusion of Shabbos Behar-Bechukosai, in which you tell me that you came to know Chabad* Chassidus* through the intermediary of... You have undertaken its study and you ask me to count you among the Chassidei Chabad*.
All that you tell me has gladdened me. Our holy books explain, in this regard, that whoever desires to take the straight path and to seek the truth benefits, for this, from help from Hashem, especially if he thus directs himself toward the Torah, and it is in this regard that it is said: "If someone tells you that he made efforts and that they were crowned with success, believe him."
Moreover, it is here a question of Chabad* Chassidus*, and in this period of profound and intense darkness, all that enables one to love Hashem and to fear Him, to put into practice the injunction "in all your ways, know Him," is particularly necessary. Such are precisely the foundations of Chassidus*.
Our Sages say that one knows elevation in all that is linked to holiness, and that one adds blessings to whoever multiplies his efforts. I therefore have good hope that you will multiply your Torah classes, in general, and those of Chassidus*, in particular. You will also participate in the public studies and the Chassidic gatherings, which strengthen the love of one's fellow, the love of the Torah, and the love of Hashem. All this will reinforce your enthusiasm for the Torah, prayer, and good deeds.
You are surely aware of the three studies that my father-in-law, the Rebbe, instituted for all Jews. They are daily and concern Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*. You will therefore adopt them.
With my blessing to receive the Torah with joy and enthusiasm,
