Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1632 — Tzedakah

Volume 6 · Letter 104 · To: comité féminin pour la pureté familiale

By the grace of Hashem,

12 Sivan 5712,

Brooklyn, New York,

To the women's committee for taharas hamishpachah*,

Toronto, Canada,

Greetings and blessings,

I learned with pleasure that you have set yourselves the important objective of constructing a modern and kosher mikvah* in your city and that, with the help of Hashem, you will organize, next Sunday, a special evening for this purpose.

I seize this opportunity to greet you and wish you success, as well as a positive outcome for your objective. More importantly, you will spread the idea and the awareness of the fundamental character of taharas hamishpachah*. Without it, Jewish life is inconceivable. This message must constantly be the object of broad dissemination among the women of Toronto and its region.

In these days that follow the festival of Shavuos*, the time of the giving of our Torah, it is no doubt unnecessary to recall to you that Hashem, when He gave the Torah, addressed Himself first to the women, through the intermediary of Moshe Rabbeinu*. Thus, to guarantee the perpetuation of the Torah, Jewish women must assume their mission with enthusiasm and verve.

Their action is particularly determinative when it concerns taharas hamishpachah*, which is one of the means of ensuring the continuity of the Jewish people and one of the necessary conditions for the Divine Presence to be revealed in Israel, as it is said: "Your camp shall be holy."

Certainly, your action has a local scope. Nevertheless, as I emphasized, it effectively retroacts upon the entire Jewish people. I would therefore like to bring you my participation, even in a symbolic manner. I enclose a check for this sacred objective.

With my blessing for success,
