To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

A) I received with pleasure your previous letter, of the eve of Shavuos*, by which you inform me that you have moved into a new apartment. May Hashem grant that in changing place, you may also change mazal*, as our Sages say, for the good, in good health, and with the satisfaction of all your other needs.

I ask Hashem that you may be able to communicate to me good news in this domain.

B) I am surprised that you say nothing concerning the organization of the yeshivah* in Tel Aviv. It has surely been decided to increase the time of study, and this is being employed in a satisfactory manner.

I have already explained several times[2] that by increasing the number of talmidim* here below, one causes the material means obtained on high to grow.

I await your good news. You will tell me that you have increased the number of good talmidim* and that they know success, studying the Torah with yiras Shamayim*.

C) You ask me about the possibility of studying secular sciences at the yeshivah*. In a general way, this is a situation that is not desirable, and seeking it is condemnable. It is difficult for me to say more, for I do not know the program of studies at present and the request that has been made of you.

Nevertheless, the moment has come to be more sure of oneself. And, in fact, you should be the first to take an initiative in this sense. Indeed, the verse says: "Hashem is with us" and adds immediately: "Do not fear them." Moreover, one can observe the success that one knows when one invests oneself in what one accomplishes with integrity and without seeking a personal interest.

In all the domains where the so-called experts and, a fortiori, those who have an entry in high places, affirm that an impossibility exists, one has known, in the end, success. It is therefore quite clear that one must derive determination from this, especially for the points that our masters, of saintly memory, have defined as essential. It is unnecessary to say more.

D) I thank you very much for having addressed to me the account of what the Rebbe Rashab* said to Rav Sh. Gronem[3]. If you have other words in mind, you will not fail to write them to me.

I enclose for you the report of what I said to those who presented me with their condolences, on 19 Iyar[4]. May Hashem grant each of us the merit of announcing only good to the other, always and every day.

בנועם קבלתי מכתבו הקודם מערב חגה"ש, בו מודיע אשר נכנסו לדירה החדשה, ויה"ר מהשי"ת אשר יהי' משנה מקום משנה מזל לטובה הן בבריאות הנכונה והן בשאר ענינים הנצרכים להם ואקוה להשי"ת שיוכל להודיעני בשו"ט בזה.

ב) לפלא שאינו מזכיר מאומה ע"ד הסדר שנעשה בישיבת תל אביב, אשר בטח קבלו הוספה והלימודים הולכים ומתנהגים כדבעי, וכבר אמרתי כ"פ שכשמוסיפים במספר התלמידים למטה הרי מוסיפים גם מלמעלה בהשגת האמצעים הגשמים הנצרכים, ואחכה לבשו"ט אשר הגדיל השי"ת גבולם בתלמידים טובים ומצליחים בת"ת ביראת שמים.

ג) בשאלתו בענין לימודי חול בישיבתם, הנה בכלל הוא מהענינים שאין להדר בהם, וההידור בזה יגונה, קשה לי להגיד פרטים בזה כיון שאיני יודע סדר הלימודים בזה עתה וכן הדרישה שיש בזה, אבל כבר באה העת אז זיי זאלן זיין ברייטער בא זיך, ובאמת הי' מהראוי שהם יהיו המתחילים בהתפשטות זו כיון שה' אתנו הרי הפסוק מסיים אל תיראום, ובפרט שרואים במוחש איך שמצליחים בכל ענין שעושים באמת ובלי פניות ואף בענינים כאלו, שכל המביני מדע כביכול ומכש"כ אלו שיש להם מהלכים מאחורי הפרגוד אמרו מתחלה שא"א הדבר וסו"ס הצליחו, הרי עאכו"כ אז עס דארף קומען די ברייטקייט מצד זה ובפרט בענינים שכ"ק נשיאינו זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע החשיבו זה כעיקרים וד"ל.

ד) ת"ח ת"ח על הספור מה שאר כ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) נ"ע להר"ש גרונם ע"ה ובטח אם יש בזכרונו עוד מהני מילי מעלייתא יכתבם, ומוסג"פ ר"ד למנחמי ביום י"ט אייר והשי"ת יזכה את כאו"א מאתנו להשמיע איש לרעהו אך טוב תכה"י...
