Refugee Camp, Oswego, New York,

I greet you and bless you,

You have doubtless received the telegram of my father-in-law, the Lubavitcher Rebbe Shlita*, of which I enclose a copy in Yiddish.

As Director of the Executive Committee of Merkaz L'Inyanei Chinuch* and of Machaneh Israel, I would like to address to you once again our blessing, a blessing of greetings and of welcome, in the name of all our friends.

In conformity with the instructions of our master, my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, we have sent you, to the secretariat of the camp, a parcel containing reading and study books, copies of the periodical HaKriah VeHaKedushah, which will constitute a solid base for the library of the synagogue located in the camp. These books are of immense value and great utility, as you yourself will be able to perceive.

As my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, said in the telegram he addressed to you, in the one he sent to the director of the camp, and in those emanating from Merkaz L'Inyanei Chinuch and Machaneh Israel — we would wish to send representatives of these institutions to pay you a visit, and to visit our refugee Jewish brethren, in order to see, on the spot, in what manner we might come to your aid in all that concerns education and, more generally, the strengthening of Yiddishkeit*.

These central institutions, which are presided over by my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, have accumulated, with the help of Hashem, important achievements in the United States and Canada. They have founded schools dispensing an education without compromise, published study and reading books in conformity with the spirit of the Torah, in Hebrew, Yiddish, and English. We are convinced that, with the help of Hashem, we will be able to act in these domains, in the best possible manner, in your camp as well.

The director of the camp, Mr. Smart, to whom we have addressed ourselves through the official channel so that this visit may take place as quickly as possible, is doubtless very occupied with his many activities. It would therefore be good for you to address yourself to him, in the name of all the refugees, to request that he authorize our visit as soon as possible. Thus, we will be able to converse, in a more or less detailed manner, on all the points that concern the well-being of our refugee brethren.

We count on your prompt reply. We greet you, as well as all our Jewish brethren who are in the camp. With blessing and friendship,

בתור יו"ר ועד הפועל של המרכז לעניני חנוך ושל מחנה ישראל הנני בזה לכפול ברכתנו, ברכת שלום עליהם וברוכים הבאים, בשם כל חברינו.

ע"פ פקודת נשיאנו כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א שלחנו לכת"ר ע"ש משרד המחנה חבילה של ספרי לימוד וקריאה והירחון "הקריאה והקדושה" אשר ישמשו יסוד הגון בעד ספרי' ע"י ביהכנ"ס של המחנה. גודל ערכם ותועלתם של עניני דפוס אלה הן יראה כת"ר ויווכח.

כאמור במברקה של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א לכת"ר וכן במברקה לראש המחנה, וגם במברקות שיצאו ממשרדי המרכז לעניני חנוך ומחנה ישראל, רוצים אנו לשגר ב"כ ממוסדות אלה לבקר את כת"ר ואחב"י הפליטים, ולהוודע על אתר כיצד נוכל להושיט יד עזר וסיוע לאחב"י הפליטים במחנה בשדה החנוך והחזקת היהדות בכלל.

מוסדות מרכזיים הנ"ל העומדים תחת נשיאות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א כבר הצליחו בעזהשי"ת לפעול גדולות ונצורות באה"ב וקנדה ביסוד מוסדות חנוך כשרים ובהוצאת ספרי למוד וקריאה ברוחה של תורה בלה"ק, באידיש ובשפת המדינה, ובטחוננו גדול אשר גם במחנם נוכל בעזהשי"ת לפעול בזה עצהיו"ט.

ובאשר ראש המחנה, מר סמארט, אשר פנינו אליו באופן רשמי לאפשר ביקורנו בהקדם, בטח טרוד בענינים שונים, מן הראוי אשר כת"ר מצדויפנה אליו בשם כל הפליטים לעוררו להחיש לנו רשיון הביקור במחנה, כדי שנוכל לדבר את כת"ר ארוכות וקצרות בכל הענינים הנ"ל הנוגעים לטובת אחב"י הפליטים.

מקוים אנו לשמוע מכת"ר בהקדם, בפ"ש לו ולכל אחב"י במחנה, וברגשי ברכה וחיבה,

נדפסה באגרות קודש אדמו"ר מוהריי"צ נ"ע ח"ח ע' שה (לקו"ש חכ"ג ע' 422). וראה שם לתוכן האגרת שלפנינו. * * * בימים שלאחרי כתיבת האגרת שלפנינו הגיעה אל כ"ק אדמו"ר שליט"א שמועת הסתלקות אביו הרה"ג והרה"ח המקובל ר' לוי יצחק שניאורסאהן ז"ל, ביום כ' מנ"א. זהו, כנראה, הטעם שלא הגיעו לידינו אגרות משלהי חדש מנ"א ומחדש אלול תש"ד, מלבד זו שלאח"ז, שבנוסח האנגלי מתחלת (מתורגם ללה"ק): זוהי ההזדמנות הראשונה שיש לי... לאחרונה נפטר אבי, הכ"מ. האיחור במענה אליו והבעת הערותי היה בלתי נמנע.
