Greetings and blessings,

I received with pleasure your letter of 23 Sivan, in which you tell me that your educational work and, in particular, your dissemination of Torah are better and better organized, and that, thank Hashem, you see the results.

May Hashem fulfill in you the promise of our Sages according to which "to whoever adds, more is added," which means that on your part, you must redouble your ardor. Thus, Hashem will grant you success in all these points and also in your personal concerns, as well as those of your wife.

You speak to me of converts, and you fear that their conversion may not have been in conformity with halachah*. You ask me whether it is necessary to make an inquiry concerning this.

This is indeed a good initiative, but you will do it in secret and discreetly, so that no one knows what you are doing. You will surely find a way to accomplish this.

You tell me that several members of your community have forgotten their Jewish names, and you wish to recite a blessing in order to give them a new name.

You do not tell me what led you to occupy yourself with this. Perhaps it is possible, at least for some of them, to recover the name that was given them at birth or at the bris milah*, from the birth certificate or by questioning the parents.

I enclose for you a copy of my letter for the festival of Shavuos* and the one concerning the period of vacation. No doubt they will be useful to you with those around you and your students.

בנועם קבלתי מכתבו מכ"ג סיון, בו כותב אשר עבודתו בשדה החנוך בפרט ובהרבצת תורה הולכת ומסתדרת ורואה בזה הוא הצלחה ת"ל,

הנה יה"ר מהשי"ת אשר כמרז"ל יקוים בו כל המוסיף מוסיפין לו, היינו שהוא מצדו יוסיף אומץ ומלמעלה מוסיפין לו הצלחה בהנ"ל ובמילא ג"כ בענינים שלו ושל זוגתו שיחיו הפרטיים.

מ"ש בענין הגרים שחושש שנתגיירו שלא כדין השו"ע, ושואל דעתי אם לחקור אח"ז:

הנה נכון הדבר, ובלבד שיעשה את זה בחשאי ובצנעא שלא יודעו שמתעסק הוא בחקירות כאלו, ובטח יש למצוא דרך בזה.

מ"ש שישנם כמה אנשים בקהלתו ששכחו שמם היהודי, ורוצה לתת להם שם חדש במי שברך וכיו"ב.

הנה אינו כותב מה דוחקו לכנוס בענין זה, ובטח עכ"פ בחלק מהם יש להודע, אם ע"פ תעודת הלידה - בוירט סערטיפיקאט - או מההורים, את השם שקראו לו בעת לידתו או בהברית מילה.
