Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1695 — Tzedakah

By the grace of Hashem,

9 Tammuz 5712,

Brooklyn, New York,

I bless and greet you,

I duly received your letter of 29 Sivan, in which I read that you visited Kfar Chabad, that you participated there in a chassidic farbrengen*, and that you were moved by the warmth, sincerity and Jewish and chassidic delight to which you bore witness.

You surely know the statement of our Sages that action prevails over study. In other words, the concrete deed is more important than theory. This is so for all people, and especially for the young.

Every event befalling a person is an effect of divine Providence and must be regarded as a teaching from Hashem, a lesson for one's personal life.

You still have your whole life ahead of you. You must therefore understand that the Jewish and chassidic delight and enthusiasm you witnessed should not merely be regarded as a good thing. It is an indication of the necessity of looking more attentively at life and of transforming yourself, in order to integrate these positive elements into your existence.

Obviously, one cannot keep a positive element to oneself. It must also be transmitted to others. I therefore have great hope that you will exercise a positive influence upon those around you, to whom you will bring this state of mind, this message and this aspiration.

I hope that you will not be content with this single visit to the Chassidim, but will continue to come to them from time to time. You will also visit Beis Rivkah*, which is located on the premises.

May Hashem grant you His help so that your visit to Eretz Yisroel be fruitful. I would be happy to receive good news from you.

מרוצה מכפי שזה הולך עד עתה.

אינו מזכיר אודות הסכסוך שהי׳ לו עם משפחתו ,וידוע מאמר רז״ל

ששלום הוא כלי לברכה בגשמיות וברוחניות ,ובלי נדר ,כשאהי׳ ערב ראש

חודש הבע״ל ,על הציון של חמי כ״ק אדמו״ר זצוקללה״ה נבג״מ זי״ע,

אזכיר אותו ואת בני ביתו שיחיו להמצטרך להם ,וביחוד לפרנסה כבקשתו,

והנני מקוה לשמוע ממנו בשורות טובות בזה.

אינני מכיר את ההנהגות במלון שלו ,אבל הי׳ ראוי וזה גם כלי לברכה

והצלחה לפרנסה ,שבלובי של המלון או בחדר הקריאה המיוחד או

בשולחנות הקטנים ,יהיו בנמצא מספר ספרים יהודיים שיוסיפו יראת

שמים וידיעת התורה אצל הקוראים הן באידיש והן באנגלית ,והנני משער

שימצא עם מי להרכיב רשימה של ספרים מסוג זה.

הנני מסיים מכתבי בברכה לפרנסה בהרחבה ,והשי״ת יתן לו גשמיות

והוא יעשה מגשמיות רוחניות.
