To the directors of the Yeshivah Lubavitch of Lod,

may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

A) I duly received your letters of the 17th, 24th, 27th of Sivan and the 3rd of Tammuz, with the twenty-one student files enclosed, as well as the telegram by which you inform me that you have placed the barracks at the disposal of the network[1].

B) You mention the vocational school. It seems to me I wrote you that we approached Dr. Shapiro again from here, who promises to intervene in this matter to the full extent of his ability, so that the Joint take on the entire expense, with the exception of the construction.

Perhaps it would be good not to publicize all of this, whenever it can be avoided, so that nothing be called into question, especially since, as you say in your letter, it seems that the committee of yeshivos* is not enchanted with this project.

I also wrote you that the greatest efforts must be made to begin the construction. Even if the Joint cannot finance it, perhaps there is hope that it will lend its assistance to improve and equip it. Its participation will depend on the value of the works[2] and on your relationships. Dr. Shapiro says that he will himself adopt a positive stance in the matter.

C) Should your barracks be used for the vocational school? It seems that this is not worthwhile, for it is too small and impossible to enlarge. As I have said, it is preferable to envision a construction that can be expanded later on.

D) As for the four thousand[3] subsidy granted by the Jewish Agency and the loan of the same amount that was offered to you two years ago, I have, here too, already written you that one must endeavor to obtain them as quickly as possible, of course.

E) You mention the building of the Kfar[4] which you wish to use for the vocational school. But you also write that it was built and equipped for the yeshivah. I therefore see no reason to take it away from it, especially since the yeshivah already exists, whereas this school is yet to be founded.

Your letter also seems to indicate that you do not wish to take it. Obviously, the directors of the yeshivah at the Kfar must be of the same opinion.

F) I read with pleasure in your letter that you have a greater number of pupils. Even so, one must not go to the other extreme and multiply them out of all proportion. One must also take into account the way in which receipts evolve.

In this matter, one can imitate my father-in-law, the Rebbe, who used to say, "I have always been in debt" to finance communal activities. Despite this, he knew up to what limit he could allow expenses to exceed receipts.

Obviously, one must not accept very young pupils and transform the yeshivah into a Talmud Torah*.

G) You mention the central British Fund. This organization has long ago received a letter and a memorandum from our office in Paris[5]. It must therefore put itself in contact with this Paris office, so that your correspondence and that of the office do not contradict one another.

H) You have surely received, in its time, the pamphlet[6] published in honor of the festival of liberation[7].

You will take advantage of the 12 and 13 of Tammuz that are approaching, in the appropriate manner. I await good news from you in this matter.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתביהם מי"ז, כ"ד כ"ז סיון וג' תמוז עם כ"א גליונות תלמידים המצורפים וכן המברק שמסרו הצריף להנהלת הרשת.

ב) בנוגע למ"ש אודות בי"ס למלאכה, הנה כמדומה שכבר כתבתי להם שדברו פה עוד הפעם עם הד"ר שפירא והוא מבטיח לעשות בזה ככל יכולתו, היינו שהדזוינט יקח ע"ע כל ההוצאות, מלבד הבנין (ואפשר אין כדאי עדיין לפרסם הדבר במקום שאינו נוגע, כדי שלא יקלקלו כו', ובפרט שלפי הניכר ממכתבם, ועד הישיבות אינו שבע רצון מזה).

וכן כבר כתבתי בנוגע להבנין שצריך להשתדל בכל עוז להתחיל בזה עכ"פ. ואולי יש תקוה, שאף שאין הדזוינט יכול לעזור בבנין, אבל מותר לו לעזור בשפור בנין ושכלולו, ומדת השפור והשכלול ה"ז תלוי בשודא דדייני, ובההכירות עמהם. ולפ"ד הד"ר שפירא בזה - היחס מצדו יהי' טוב.

ג) ואם יש להשתמש בצריף שלהם לבי"ס למלאכה, הנה, לכאורה, אין כדאי כיון שקטן הוא מדי, וא"א להגדילו. וכנ"ל כדאי להתחיל בבנין שאין בו מניעה להגדלתו.

ד) בנוגע להתקציב של ד' אלפים מהסוכנות, וכן מה שהציעו להם זה כשנתיים הלואה כזו, הנה ג"כ כבר כתבתי, שיש להשתדל ביותר להשיגם בהקדם, וכמובן.

ה) מ"ש בדבר הבנין בהכפר לקחתו בשביל בי"ס למלאכה, הנה כיון שבעצם מוסיפים במכתבם שנבנה ושוכלל בשביל הישיבה, איני מבין מאיזה טעם יקחו אותו מהם. ובפרט שהישיבה כבר קיימת, והבי"ס למלאכה צריך לייסד וכו'. וכנראה ממכ' שגם דעתם הוא שלא לקחתו. ופשיטא שכן תהי' גם דעת הנהלת הישיבה בהכפר.

ו) נהניתי לקרות במכ', שהגדילו גבולם בתלמידים, אבל מובן שלא יאחזו בקצה השני לתפוס מרובה. כי עכ"פ צריך להתחשב באיזה מדה עם גודל ההכנסה. ובמכש"כ מהנהגת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, שאף שמרגלא בפומי' לאמר, איך בין אלע מאל געווען א בע"ח (כוונתו להוצאות בעסקנות הצבורית), אבל בכ"ז הנה גם אצלו היתה הגבלה בכמה להגדיל ההוצאה על ההכנסה. - ופשיטא, שאין לקחת ת' קטנים, ולהפוך הישיבה לת"ת!

ז) במ"ש מענין צענטראל בריטיש פונד, הנה זה מכבר שמונח אצלם מכתב ותזכיר מהלשכה בפאריז, וצריכים הם לעמוד בקשור עם הלשכה שלנו בפאריז, בכדי שלא יבלבלו המכתבים שלהם ושל הלשכה דפריז זע"ז.

ח) הקונטרס שהו"ל לימי חג הגאולה הבע"ל בטח הגיע בזמנו, וינצלו את הימים י"ב וי"ג תמוז הבע"ל באופן המתאים. ואחכה לבשו"ט בזה.
