Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1711 — Marriage
Volume 6 · Letter 183
By the grace of Hashem,
15 Tammuz 5712,
Brooklyn,
Greetings and blessings,
I received your request for a brachah*, through the distinguished chassid who fears Hashem and discharges his duty faithfully, Rav Yaakov HaCohen[1]. You and your kallah* have set the date of your wedding for Sunday, the day after Shabbos Nachamu[2].
I wish you a positive and joyful wedding, with a good mazal*. You will build a Jewish home, based on Torah and mitzvos*.
It is surely unnecessary to remind you what is the deep significance of marriage, when one is preparing for a shared life filled with happiness, to build a home for many good and long years. It is therefore essential that this be based upon particularly solid foundations, capable of withstanding fluctuations in temperature, humidity, earthquakes and other natural phenomena.
It is the same when one is preparing to lead a shared life. One must base it on Torah and mitzvos*, the most solid materials there are, tested by many difficulties during the three and a half millennia that have passed since Hashem gave us the Torah.
It is in this way that one receives the divine blessings to have a truly happy life. May Hashem grant you, as I said, a mazal tov* and an eternal edifice, based on Torah and mitzvos*.
With my blessing,
[1] Rav Y. Katz, of Chicago. See the previous letter.
