Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1724 — Inner Avodah

By the grace of Hashem,

Greetings and blessings,

In reply to your letter of Wednesday of Parshas Pinchas. May Hashem cause your wife's pregnancy to go well, that the birth take place in a good and propitious moment, that she give birth easily, and that you give me good news in this regard.

You tell me of your bad thoughts. Several of our masters note[1] that "one can enter into an empty place." You will therefore make the effort to learn by heart several passages of the Oral Torah, preferably from the Mishnah or from Tanya. And, if a little light dispels much darkness, how much more so can much light. For nothing withstands the will. You will consult on this subject the Likkutei Torah, at the end of Parshas Kedoshim[2].

You surely keep the well-known studies that were instituted by my father-in-law, the Rebbe—those of Chumash, Tehillim and Tanya. You will also need to have the mezuzos* of your house checked, in order to make sure they are all kosher.

I await good news on all these points.

ומ"ש על ענין המחשבות לא טובות שנופלים לו, הנה ידוע מאמרם של כמה מנשיאינו רבוה"ק: אין א פוסטקע - מקום פנוי וריק - קריכט וכו', ולכן ישתדל ללמוד בעל פה איזה ענינים מתורה שבעל פה, ומה טוב שיהי' זה משניות ותניא, ואם מעט אור דוחה הרבה חשך הרי עאכו"כ הרבה אור, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון. וראה לקו"ת ס"פ קדושים.

בטח שומר השיעורים הידועים מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, בחומש תהלים ותניא, וצריך לבדוק המזוזות בביתו שיהיו כולם כשרות ואחכה לבשו"ט בכל הנ"ל.
