To the chassid who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs

in assuming a sacred mission,

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of 18 Tammuz.

I heard some time ago of your positive activities in the area of chinuch*, tending to draw close the hearts of the children of Yisroel to their Father in Heaven.

Our Sages rule, at the end of tractate Taanis, that "to whoever adds, we add"[2]. This means, in particular, that one who increases his commitment in everything connected to Torah and mitzvos* receives from Hashem increased blessings, both in the possibility of broadening his deeds tied to Torah and mitzvos* and in his desire to advance on this path, from one stage to the next.

Moreover, you currently hold the function of inspector in the villages where our brothers, the children of Yisroel, reside. Divine Providence has entrusted you with considerable responsibility and merit. You must lead, encourage and illuminate these Jewish settlements, by "the candle that is a mitzvah and the Torah that is light," by the luminary of the Torah, which is Chassidus*.

It is in this way that you will also obtain the blessing and success in your material concerns. Thus the Torah says: "If you walk in My statutes," which alludes to the study of Torah, as the Sifra explains and as Rashi's commentary recalls. It continues: "And if you keep My commandments," which corresponds to the prohibitions, as our Sages note regarding all verses introduced by pen[3] or al[4], "and you do them," which introduces the positive commandments. The verse then gives the assurance: "I shall give your rains." Moreover, they will be "in their time."

Great is your lot! You have the merit of being one of Hashem's emissaries to carry out His mission in His world. May He grant you soon an increased blessing and success in what concerns you personally. In accordance with the promise of the Alter Rebbe, expressed at the beginning of Torah Or, your brain and your heart will be a thousand times more refined. You will be able to fix a time for the study of the revealed part of the Torah and of Chassidus*, advancing through successive stages.

Very soon, you will settle, by getting married, in the manner that best suits you, materially and spiritually at once.

מכתבו מח"י תמוז נתקבל,

זה מכבר שמעתי על דבר פעולותיו הטובות בשדה החנוך המקרב את לבם של בני ובנות ישראל לאביהם שבשמים, וידוע פסק רז"ל (שלהי תענית) כל המוסיף מוסיפין לו, אשר אחד הפירושים בזה הוא, שכל המוסיף בעינים דתורה ומצות מוסיפים לו מלמעלה, הן בהיכולת להגדיל פעולותיו בתורה ומצות והן בגידול רצונו לזה שהולך הוא בהנ"ל מחיל אל חיל, ובפרט בעבודתו עתה שהוא מפקח בכפרים מושב אחינו בני ובנות ישראל, הנה חוב וזכות קדוש הועמס על שכמו על ידי השגחה העליונה, להביא ולהעיר ולהאיר את מושבות בני ישראל בנר מצוה ותורה אור ומאור שבתורה זוהי תורת החסידות, אשר על ידי זה ממשיכים גם כן ברכה והצלחה בעניניהם הגשמיים, וכמ"ש בתורה, אם בחקותי תלכו - שזה מדובר בלימוד התורה, וכמש"נ בספרא, והובא בפירוש רש"י - ואת מצותי תשמרו - שזהו מצות לא תעשה, וכמרז"ל כל מקום שנאמר השמר, פן, ואל, ה"ז בלא תעשה - ועשיתם אותם - זהו מדבר במצות עשה - ומבטיח הכתוב, ונתתי גשמיכם - ולא עוד אלא שאתן אותם - בעתם, וגו', ואשרי חלקו אשר הוא אחד משלוחיו של המקום ב"ה למלאות תפקיד הנ"ל בעולמו, ויהי רצון מהשי"ת אשר בקרוב ממש תומשך ג"כ ברכה בתוספת והצלחה בעניניו הפרטים, היינו שעל פי הבטחת רבינו אדמו"ר הזקן (תורה אור בתחלתו) יעשו מוחו ולבו זכים אלף פעמים ככה ויוכל להוסיף בקביעות עתים בתורת הנגלה ותורת החסידות ולעלות מחיל אל חיל, ובקרוב ממש יסתדר באופן המתאים לפניו בענין השידוכים בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד,
