Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1736 — Tzedakah

By the grace of Hashem,

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter, in which you request a brachah* for yourself and for the members of your family, in particular that your daughter become engaged. When I find myself at the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, I will read out your request, and there is no doubt that he will invoke divine mercy that the wish of your heart be fulfilled positively.

It is surely unnecessary to emphasize to you the necessity of forging suitable channels and receptacles to elicit and contain Hashem's blessings. These consist of two points. One must, first of all, exert a positive influence on others, drawing their hearts close to our Father in Heaven. In this respect, you have a particular merit, since you are the secretary of a Chabad* shul*, as you specify in your letter. One must, furthermore, work upon one's own person, each according to his own situation, in order to know elevation in the realm of holiness.

Our Sages refer to "one who adds," and their formulation implies two points. On one hand, one is given an added reward, through the satisfaction of his needs. On the other hand, one is also given an added desire to increase his commitment in everything pertaining to Torah and mitzvos*. Our Sages indeed rule that "one mitzvah draws another in its wake."

I enclose a note that was published in honor of the auspicious days of the liberation of 12 and 13 Tammuz. You will surely consult it, for it is current throughout the year, to discover therein the manner of avodas Hashem without being affected by the veils and obstacles. Thus you will receive an increased light within your four cubits.

קבלתי מכתבו ובו קוויטל בקשת ברכה בעדו וב"ב וביחוד בענין זיווג לבתו תחי', וכשאהי' על הציון של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אקראהו, ובודאי יעורר ר"ר למילוי משאלות לבבו לטובה.

ולמותר להעירו ע"ד הנחיצות לעשות צנורות וכלים מתאימים להמשכת וקבלת ברכות השי"ת, והם בשנים, הן בהשפעה על הזולת לקרב את לבם לאבינו שבשמים, שזכות קדוש בזה עליו, באשר גבאי הוא בביהכ"נ חב"ד - כמו שכותב במכתב - ובעבודה בעצמו כל אחד ואחד לפי מעמדו ומצבו שצריך להוסיף ולעלות בקדש, וידוע מרז"ל כל המוסיף מוסיפין לו, שכולל שנים, שמוסיפין לו בשכר ובהמצטרך לו ומוסיפין לו בהחשק להוסיף בתורה ומצות, וכפסק רז"ל מצוה גוררת מצוה.

מוסג"פ הרשימה שהו"ל לימי הגאולה והסגולה י"ב וי"ג תמוז שעברו, ובטח יעיין בה, שבאמת כל השנה זמנה היא להורות פרק בעבודת ה' שלא להתפעל מההעלמות וההסתרים ויהי' תוספת אור בכל הד' אמות שלו,
