To the great Rav, distinguished chassid who fears Hashem,

Rav Sholom[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of 21 Tammuz.

I would like to formulate a personal request, which you will surely transmit to all those concerned. It is the following.

I would like to furnish my library also with the works of Sephardic authors and with books of Kabbalah*, whether written by Sephardim or by Ashkenazim. Of course, my means for these acquisitions are extremely limited. Now, in the Holy Land[2] there are several authors and many books belonging to these categories. Some are found in private homes or even in shuls*, where no one uses them.

I would be grateful to those who would gather such books and, little by little, send them to me. Where they cannot be given gratis for my library, one may propose to exchange them for the publications of Kehos*.

It should be noted that several books answering to these definitions were brought to the Holy Land by the Sephardic immigrants from North Africa, Yemen and Persia[3], or are also found among those that were saved from Germany and Poland[4].

I therefore charge you with making my request known to all those whom it concerns. I thank you in advance for what you will do in this matter, and especially for what will result from it concretely.

As for the sending of these books, it can be done little by little. In any event, you will surely not find them all at once. Likewise, you will specify to me the persons to whom a letter of thanks should be addressed and, without making it a vow, we shall do so.

I extend to you my blessing of success in the fulfillment of your mission. No doubt you will confirm to me as soon as possible that you have duly received the present letter.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מכ"א תמוז...

באתי בזה בבקשה פרטית ובטח יודיע לאלו השייכים לזה, והוא: מחפש הנני למלאות את הספרי' שלי גם בספרי המחברים הספרים ובספרי קבלה הן מהספרדים והן מהאשכנזים, מובן אשר מוגבל הנני ביותר באמצעים לקנות ספרים אלו, וכיון שבאה"ק ת"ו נמצאים כמה מחברים וכמה ספרים מסוג הנ"ל ומהם אשר מונחים בבית אנשים פרטים או גם בבתי כנסיות ואין להם הופכים ומשתמשים בהם, הנה הייתי מכיר תודה אם היו משתדלים אוסף ספרים אלו ולהמציאם לאט לאט אלי, ובאלו המקומות שאי אפשר יהי' להשיג בתור תשורה להספרי' שלי, הנה יש להציע להחליפם על ספרי הוצאת קה"ת ולהעיר בזה אשר כמה ספרים מסוגים אלו הובאו לאה"ק ת"ו ע"י העולים הספרדים מצפון אפריקה, תימן פרס וכו' וכן נמצאים בין הספרים שנצולו והובאו מאשכנז פולין וכו' וממלא הנני את ידו בזה להודיע ע"ד בקשתי זו כנ"ל, לכל אלו השייכים בזה, תודתי נתונה לו מראש על ההודעה והעיקר על הביא הענין מהכח אל הפועל. אופן משלוח ספרים אלו, הנה אפשר לשלחם לאט לאט, ובטח בלא"ה לא ישיגו את כל הספרים בבת אחת ולאלו שצריך לכתוב להם מכתבי תודה ע"ז הנה בטח יודיע ובל"נ יעשו את זה.

בברכת הצלחה למילוי שליחותו ובטח יאשר קבלת מכתבי זה בהקדם.
