Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of 23 Tammuz, as well as the previous one. I learned with pleasure that you have taken on a teaching activity in a positive manner. May Hashem grant that you know success.

You tell me that you are aware that the situation can and must be far better than at present. You know what our Sages say: "One who tells you he has labored and found, believe him." You also know the saying of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, that one positive deed is preferable to a thousand complaints. So it is with the matter at hand.

To the fullest extent possible, each one must therefore continually perfect oneself. Moreover, one must not cease one's work until reaching the highest perfection it allows. One must do both, especially when it is a matter of chinuch*, which concerns daily the souls of dozens of Jewish children. One cannot interrupt such an activity.

As you know, the Alter Rebbe affirms, at the beginning of Torah Or, that the giving of tzedakah*, material or spiritual, makes it possible to have a brain and a heart a thousand times more refined.

With my blessing of success in your sacred mission, which will also enable you to obtain an increased blessing in all your personal needs,

קבלתי מכתבו מכ"ג תמוז והקודם לו, ונהניתי לקרות בו שעוסק הוא בשדה חנוך הכשר... ויה"ר שיהי' בהצלחה.

ומ"ש שיודע הוא שיכול להיות וצריך להיות הרבה יותר טוב מכמו שהוא עתה, הנה ידוע פסק רז"ל יגעתי ומצאתי תאמין וידוע פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר טובה פעולה אחת מאלף אנחות, וכן הוא בנידון דידן, ומובן אשר עד כמה שאפשר צריך כל אדם להשתלם יותר ויותר, ולאידך גיסא הנה אין להפסיק את כל העבודה לתכלית שלימות האפשרי בשבילו, אלא שצריך לאחוז בזה וגם בזה, ובפרט עבודת החינוך שכל יום ויום נוגע בנפשות של עשיריות בני ובנות ישראל, שאין להפסיק עבודה זו, וידוע פס"ד רבינו הזקן - תורה אור בתחלתו - שע"י עבודת הצדקה (בגשמיות או ברוחניות) נעשים מוחו ולבו זכים אלף פעמים ככה,

בברכת הצלחה בעבודתו בקדש וזה ימשיך ג"כ תוספת ברכה גם בעניניו הפרטיים.
