Igrot Kodesh · Letter 1779 — Faith & Bitachon

Volume 6 · Letter 252

By the grace of Hashem,

13 Menachem Av 5712,

Brooklyn,

I bless you and greet you,

In reply to your letter of erev 9 Av. I learned in it with pleasure that you have already returned home and that you are feeling well. May Hashem grant that your state of health continue to improve and that you may announce to me good news on this subject.

You question me concerning your non-Jewish neighbors, for they cause you difficulties and you take all this to heart.

You must strengthen your faith. You know that all Yidden are "believers and sons of believers." Hashem created the world and continues to direct it. He is the sole Master of its most monumental elements as of the most insignificant. When one strengthens oneself in the practice of Torah and mitzvos, one can be penetrated by the terms of the verse: "I am not afraid, for You are with me." From then on, no one is capable of harming a Yid, chas veshalom*.

You therefore have no need to think about all this. It is enough for you to strengthen your bitachon* in Hashem. Just as He has permitted that your health improve and that you return home, He will grant you, as also to your husband, an agreeable existence, abstracting from all pain.

I hope that you will take account of my words. Likewise, without making a vow of it, you will read each evening the Shema Yisroel, and you will give a few coins to tzedakah before doing so. Thus you will strengthen your bitachon* in Hashem, as also your state of health, and you will always have good news to announce to me.

With my blessing,
