Greetings and blessings,

In reply to your letter of 28 Tammuz, in which you inform me of your difficulties in obtaining an American visa. You have been making efforts in this direction for several years and, each time, it is impossible for you to obtain it, for there is always lacking a document or an official act. You ask me what I think and whether you should renew your immigration application.

In fact, the essential is missing in your letter. Why do you wish to leave the Holy Land to go to America? To be sure, you tell me that, there, you must work hard, but our Sages underline that a man cannot know in what manner he will earn his livelihood. You cannot therefore foresee in advance what will happen in another country.

It seems that you earn enough to ensure your subsistence and that of the members of your family. You reside, moreover, in a neighborhood where reigns a spirit of Torah and yiras shamayim*. Your son attends the Talmud Torah of Yeshivas Lubavitch. Furthermore, you observe all the obstacles that hashgachah pratis* has erected before you until now, preventing you from obtaining the documents necessary for your immigration.

In my opinion, forget therefore all this for the moment. Devote yourself to the improvement of your situation in Eretz Yisroel. May Hashem grant that your settlement there be fruitful, materially and spiritually.

I read with pleasure in your letter that you are satisfied with the Yeshivas Lubavitch of Lod. Our Sages underline that "action is what matters and not study." This impression will therefore remain engraved in you and will multiply the good in your daily existence, your thoughts, your words, and your actions.

With my blessing for the satisfaction of all your needs, as also those of the members of your family,

N.B.: You no doubt have knowledge of the three studies that concern each one. They are instituted by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, and bear on Chumash, Tehillim and Tanya. You surely observe them.

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ח תמוז, בו כותב המצב בענין הוויזה האמריקנית שזה איזה שנים ששוקד בזה ובכל פעם ופעם מזדמנים עכובים שונים מצד ניירות ותעודות שונות, ושואל חוות דעתי, אם לחדש את היתר היציאה וכו'.

והנה העיקר חסר במכתבו, והוא, מהו הטעם שמכריחו לצאת מאה"ק ת"ו

לאמריקה, ואף שכותב שבשם עליו לעבוד קשה וכו' הרי אמרז"ל אין אדם יודע במה משתכר ובמילא הרי גם במדינה אחרת אי אפשר לדעת מראש אוןפן ההסתדרות, וכיון שכנראה משתכר די פרנסתו ופרנסת ב"ב שיחיו וכן דר הוא בסביבה שיש בה רוח תורה ורוח של יראת שמים, וגם בנו מתחנך בת"ת של ישיבת תומכי תמימים, ונוסף על זה הרי רואה הוא בהשגחה פרטית כמה עכובים עד עתה בענין השגת הניירות הדרושות לההגירה, הרי לדעתי לעת עתה יסיח דעתו מכל ענין זה, ומובן מעצמו שישתדל בענין שיפור מצבו באה"ק ת"ו גופא, והשי"ת יזכהו שתהי' התיישבותו בהצלחה הן בגשמיות והן ברוחניות.

נהניתי לקרות במכתבו ע"ד הרושם שעשה עליו אופן ההנהגה וההדרכה בישיבת תומכי תמימים בלוד, ובטח כמרז"ל לא המדרש עיקר אלא המעשה, הנה רושם זה נחקק בו ויביא לתוספת טובה במחשבה דבור ומעשה שלו בחיי היום יומי.

בברכה להמצטרך לו ולב"ב שיחיו.

נ"ב: בטח ידוע לו על דבר שלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, והם בחומש תהלים ותניא, ושומר עליהם.
