Greetings and blessings,

In reply to your letter of 7 Menachem Av, in which you speak to me of your physical health and especially of the state of your eye.

You tell me that you have been suffering from your eye for two years already and that you have not consulted doctors. I am not satisfied with this, but to complain of the past is useless. You must now, in my opinion, consult two specialist doctors in this domain. You will ask them to attempt all possible treatments before envisaging the removal of this eye, chas veshalom*.

You will strengthen your bitachon* in Hashem, Who will make it useless to come to that. It is no doubt superfluous to remind you of the necessity of being scrupulous regarding kiddush* and havdalah*, of which our Sages say that they condition the light of the eyes. Likewise, you will study the inner part of the Torah with increased ardor, in proportion to the situation in which you find yourself. I await good news from you on all these points.

I will read your request for a brachah* at the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. Without doubt, he will invoke divine mercy for you.

With my blessing for a state of health that is satisfactory in every respect,

במענה על מכתבו מז' מנ"א, בו כותב ע"ד מצב בריאותו בגשמיות והעיקר בנוגע למצב עינו,

והנה אין דעתי נוחה מזה שכותב שכשנתים שהתחיל להרגיש מה בעינו ובכ"ז לא הלך לרופאים, אבל אין צועקין על העבר, ועתה לדעתי צריך לשאול בעצת שני רופאים מומחים במקצוע זה ביחוד, ולהשתדל אצלם שיעשו כל התרופות האפשריות קודם שיציעו לו ע"ד הוצאת העין ח"ו, ויהי' חזק בבטחונו בהשי"ת שלא יוצרכו לזה, ובטח למותר להעיר אותו ע"ד הזהירות בקידוש והבדלה שכמרז"ל זה נוגע למאור עיניו של אדם, וכן ישתדל להוסיף אומץ בלימוד פנימיות התורה מתאים למעמדו ומצבו, ואחכה לבשו"ט ממנו.

הפ"נ שלו אקראהו על הציון של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע ובטח יעורר ר"ר עליו.
