Greetings and blessings,

I have at last received your letter of 12 Menachem Av, in which you describe to me the situation of the Oholei Yosef Yitzchok schools in the Holy Land. You question me on the various places where registrations have been recorded and where there is good hope of opening a school.

In addition to what I said in my last letter, I repeat that it is difficult, when one finds oneself at such a great distance, to give very precise instructions. Moreover, your letter seems to indicate that changes still remain possible. I will therefore formulate here a general directive, adding itself, as I specified, to what I said in my preceding letters:

A) One must not make too much noise around this. Our Sages remark that the second luchos*, which had been given in a discreet manner, were preserved. I specified from the outset that it must be so.

It is a pity that you have, it seems, abused publicity. I received, some time ago, an article published in the Holy Land, in which the schools are qualified as a "fifth network"[1]. It is plausibly a matter of setting Yidden against one another, you will understand[2].

It is useless to complain of the past, but all this will have to be rectified in the future.

B) In a general way, one must endeavor to open an Oholei Yosef Yitzchok school in the places where one is sure of being legally recognized. Indeed, the means at our disposal are very limited.

C) Of course, the Oholei Yosef Yitzchok schools that existed last year must be maintained, in all the measure of the possible.

I have already written that no difference should be made between the old schools and those that are founded this summer. No doubt, in the future, all of them, old and new, will depend on a unified direction. You will tell me what is the situation as soon as possible, for I regret that you have not answered this question until now.

D) Concerning the old debts of Oholei Yosef Yitzchok, I have already written that the donations of Mr. Moshe Meyersohn are granted to you on the condition that at least a part of this amount be devoted to their reimbursement. In the future, they will be integrated into the subsidy that the network receives.

E) I am surprised that you say nothing of the help of the Pe'ilim, who put a barrack[3] at your disposal. It is inconceivable that one distributes such barracks to the political parties and that one refuses them to an organization which is affiliated with no party.

F) I asked that one not invest in barracks and constructions. This is only a position of principle. If you estimate, unanimously, that a certain place presents an exceptional character, I rely on your appreciation, on condition that you have the means to maintain this school as long as it will be necessary.

G) Concerning your visit to Mr. Sorkis, you conclude by saying that he politely listened to the reading of my letter. I do not understand what you mean. Should I write to him personally? Is there a chance that a result will flow from it? Or is he constrained not to authorize the opening of another school, on account of his political party or of those who already possess their own schools?

H) You ask me whether you should have a letterhead printed with your new graphic design. I was saying earlier that it is fitting to avoid making noise. This initiative is therefore not appropriate at the present time. Moreover, you yourself write that this is not a priority.

I hope to receive from you a detailed letter, announcing to me good and concrete news.

סו"ס נתקבל מכתבם מי"ב מנ"א, בו כותבים סיכום המצב בענין בתי הספר דאהלי"י באה"ק ת"ו, ושואלים חוות דעתי בנוגע למקומות השונים אשר בהם עשו רישום ויש תקוות לסדר שם בתי ספר.

נוסף על מה שכתבתי במכתבי הקודם, קשה בריחוק מקום כ"כ להורות בפרטיות ופרטי פרטיות, ובפרט שכנראה גם ממכתבם עלול המצב לכמה שנויים. ואבוא בזה רק בהוראה כללית, וכנ"ל בהוספה על האמור במכתבי הקודמים:

א) אין לעשות רעש מכל הענין, ועל דרך מרז"ל שלוחות אחרונות שניתנו בחשאי נתקיימו, וכמו שכתבתי מראש ומתחילה בזה. וחבל אשר כנראה הפריזו על המדה בפירסום, כי זה לא כבר קבלתי העתק המאמר שנדפס באה"ק ת"ו שקוראים לדבר זה "זרם חמישי", וכנראה שהכונה בזה לסכסך ישראל בישראל וד"ל, ואין צועקין על העבר, ועכ"פ להבא יתקנו הענין.

ב) בכלל צריך להתאמץ לסדר האהלי"י באותם המקומות שבטוחים בהתמיכה החוקית, כיון שמצומצמים באמצעים עצמיים.

ג) מובן מעצמו שהאהלי"י שהיו בשנה העברה מוכרחים לקיימם בכל האפשריות, וכמו שכתבתי כבר שאין נוגע כלל וכלל החילוק בין אהלי"י הישנים ואלו שמייסדים בקיץ זה, ובטח מכאן ולהבא יכנסו כלם תחת הנהלה כללית אחת הן הישנים והן החדשים, ובבקשה להודיעני בהקדם עד"ז, כי מצטער אני על אשר נשתמטו במענה על שאלה זו ע"ע.

ד) בנוגע להחובות דאהלי"י הישנים, הנה כמו שכתבתי מכבר, נדבות מר משה שי' מאירזון נתונות בתנאי שיסלקו מהם עכ"פ חלק מסויים מחובות אהל[י"]י הישנים וכן יכניסום על להבא בתקציב הרשת.

ה) לפלא שאין מזכירים מאומה ע"ד העזרה מהפעילים בנתינת צריף, כי לא יאומן אשר בה בשעה שנותנים צריפים למפלגות ישללו עזרתם מענין על-מפלגתי.

ו) מה שכתבתי שלא להשקיע כספים בצריפים ובנינים, הנה כנ"ל אין זה אלא הוראה כללית, אבל אם בדעת כלם יחד יחליטו שמקום פלוני הוא יוצא מן הכלל, הרי אל בינתם אשען, ובלבד שיהי' בכחם להחזיק את המוסד כל זמן המוכרח.

ז) בענין ביקורם אצל מר מרדכי סורקיס, מסיימים שהקשיב למכתבי בדרך ארץ, ואינני יודע כונתם, אם כדאי שאכתוב לו מכאן ביחוד, שאז יש תקוה לתועלת בפועל, או שהנ"ל מוכרח (מצד המפלגה שלו או מצד אלו שיש להם כבר בתי ספר) שלא ירשה לפתוח עוד בית ספר.

ח) בנוגע לשאלתם אם להדפיס נייר עם הפירמא חדשה, הנה בהתאם להנ"ל ע"ד העדר הרעש אין כדאי לחדש עתה ענינים כאלו, כמו שכותבים ג"כ במכתבם שבזמן הראשון אין זה רצוי.
