To the great Rav, distinguished chassid who fears Hashem,

issued from an illustrious family,

Greetings and blessings,

As you previously asked me, I enclose for you the booklet printed for this 18 Elul and an extract of the sicha* of the Shabbos in the course of which Elul, the month of mercy, was blessed. They will surely interest you and will have a concrete contribution.

I duly received your two letters. You remark that the word lev*, the heart, is employed sometimes in the masculine, sometimes in the feminine. You know the response of Dunash[2] to Rabbi Saadya Gaon, expressed in chapter 150, according to which that which does not possess the character of life can effectively be one or the other. Time does not permit me to develop this subject, but it is only postponed.

I was happy to receive your regards through the intermediary of the travelers[3]. They informed me of your intervention to obtain a positive issue[4], and I rejoiced at it. Our Sages say, in the Midrash Tanchuma, cited by Rashi's commentary on Torah, that a mitzvah* is attributed to him who brings it to its term. I am therefore certain that you will strive to conclude all this positively, that is, to obtain that the check be drafted and signed. And the sooner the better, especially during the month of mercy.

You will consult Iggeres HaKodesh, chapter 21, according to which "the haste of our father Avraham protects us for eternity." The link between all this and the kohanim* can be deduced from what Likkutei Torah says at the end of Parshas Korach.

In addressing you my blessing that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year, together with the donor, to whom Hashem will grant a long life, and in expectation of good news,

מוסג"פ כבקשתו מאז הקונטרס לח"י אלול הבע"ל, וכן קטע השיחה שבת מברכים חודש אלול הוא חודש הרחמים, אשר בטח יענין את כת"ר וגם בנוגע לפועל.

מאשר הנני בזה גם כן קבלת שני מכתביו, ומה שהעיר שלפעמים כתוב בנוגע להלב לשון זכר ולפעמים לשון נקבה, הנה ידוע הכלל דכל דבר שאין בו רוח חיים זכרהו ונקבהו (תשובת דונש על רס"ג סימן ק"נ) ואין הזמן גרמא להאריך בזה ועוד חזון למועד.

בנועם קבלתי הפ"ש ממנו מהנוסעים ושמחתי מספורם מהשתתפות כת"ר בהבאת הדבר לידי פועל, ונשען על מאמרז"ל המצוה נקראת על שם גומרה (תנחומא עקב הובא בפירש"י), בטוח הנני שישתדל להביא הדבר לידי פועל ממש, היינו שיכתב ויחתם הטשעק, ויפה שעה אחת קודם, ובפרט בחודש הרחמים. ויעוין באגה"ק סימן כ"א וזריזותי' דאברהם אבינו ע"ה היא העומדת לעד וכו' ע"ש, והשייכות לכהנים בפרט מובנת ממש"כ בלקו"ת סוף פ' קרח.
