By the grace of Hashem,

22 Elul 5712,

Brooklyn,

To the participants of the chassidic farbrengen*, on the

luminous date of 18 Elul, that of the birth of the Baal

Shem Tov and the Alter Rebbe, in Toronto,

may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I learned with pleasure that you organized a chassidic farbrengen* on the luminous date of 18 Elul. I have good hope that this day, which now belongs to the past, will instill vitality into the present and the future, in conformity with the saying[1] of the early chassidim*, cited by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, in his sicha* of 18 Elul 5705[2]: "18 Elul is the date which has instilled and which still instills vitality into the month of Elul."

The meaning of this month is briefly explained in the introduction of fascicle no. 94[3], printed for 18 Elul 5711[4].

May Hashem grant that each of the participants in this farbrengen* be inscribed and sealed, with all the members of his family, for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually.

בנועם קבלתי הודעתם ע"ד התועדותם ביום הבהיר ח"י אלול העבר, ותקותי חזקה אשר יום העבר זה ישפיע חיות בההווה והעתיד וכפתגם חסידים הראשונים הובא בשיחת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר - ח"י אלול תש"ה - ח"י אלול איז דער טאג וואס האט געבריינגט און בריינגט א לעבן אין אלול, וכבר מבואר ענין אלול אף כי בקצרה בההקדמה לקונטרס ח"י אלול תשי"א - קונטרס צ"ד - והשי"ת יכתבם ויחתמם את כל אחד ואחד מהמתועדים עם כל ב"ב שיחיו לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות,
