To the Rav, distinguished chassid who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I received with pleasure your letter of Tuesday of Parshas Tavo, in which you tell me that you pursue your work as a fundraiser for the yeshivah*[2]. The amounts collected take on, thus, a spiritual dimension. Moreover, you yourself sow spirituality in carrying out this work. When you are at home, you strive, in addition, to influence your entourage.

You conclude your letter by saying that you sometimes interrogate yourself on this manner of acting, and you ask yourself by what right you give moral instruction to others. You no doubt know the affirmation of our Sages according to which "if a man were not aided, he could do nothing against him[3]." It is not therefore a matter of your moralizing words, of your speech. You only transmit a message of truth, emanating from the Torah of truth.

Moreover, you are a chassid*, bound to our master, my father-in-law, the Rebbe. You only acquit yourself of the mission which he confided to you. In this sense, you possess the strength of him who delegates you, that is, of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, who has shoulders sufficiently broad to accomplish what he wishes in every place, in every era, through the intermediary of each one, provided that the emissary remain in contact with him who delegates him.

On the occasion of the new year, which approaches in a positive and blessed manner, for us and for all Israel, I address you my brachah*, as also to all the members of your family, that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually.

בנועם קבלתי מכתבו מג' תבוא, בו כותב שממשיך בעבודתו קלייבען גשמיות בעד הישיבה - שבמילא נעשה הגשמיות רוחניות - און זייען רוחניות, וכן משתדל בהיותו בביתו להשפיע על סביבתו וכו'. ומה שמסיים במכתבו שלפעמים רבות נופל במחשבתו ואומר לעצמו מי הוא המטיף מוסר וכו' הנה בכלל ידוע מרז"ל אלמלא עוזרו אין יכול לו, ובמילא לא הוא המטיף ולא הוא האומר מוסר אלא שמוסר דברי אמת הלקוחים מתורת אמת ובפרט חסיד העומד בהתקשרות לנשיאנו הוא כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הרי אין עליו אלא מילוי שליחות ובמילא כח המשלח עמו וכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר יש לו גענוג ברייטע פלייצעס דורכפירן שליחותו בכל מקום ובכל זמן ע"י כל אדם ובלבד שיעמוד השליח בקישור עם המשלח,

ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו ולב"ב שיחיו ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.
