To the distinguished chassid who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Mr. Cahanov,

Greetings and blessings,

I learned with satisfaction, through the leadership of the Oholei Yosef Yitzchok Lubavitch network in the Holy Land, of the positive attitude which you have adopted toward this institution and the manner in which you come to its aid when this is necessary.

It is unnecessary to tell you to what point all this is important. The formation of adults is different from that of children. As regards the former, a deviation from the straight path can preserve limited proportions. It is not so for the young generation. As regards them, a small modification can cause much harm when the child reaches adulthood. For "man is like the tree of the field," and one can ascertain that a slight modification of the seed transforms the tree to which it gives birth, qualitatively and quantitatively.

If, from all time, the chinuch* of the young generation has been an absolute priority, all the more is it so at the present hour, after the terrible persecutions which have unfortunately caused the loss of a quantitatively and qualitatively important part of the Jewish people.

In such a case, the intrinsic value of every Jewish man and every Jewish woman is all the more important. And the merit of him who contributes to improving the conditions of chinuch* is therefore even more considerable. Moreover, it concerns, in the present case, an educational system which links the young generation to the tradition of our ancestors, to its past which is immutable in the present and will continue to be in the future, and to that which is at the very base of the perpetuity of Israel, throughout the entire duration of our exile, until the coming of our righteous Moshiach, very soon and in our days, Amen.

I thank you again for your aid in the past and ask you to do likewise in the future, to grant your support to the leadership of the Oholei Yosef Yitzchok Lubavitch network when it has need of it. I am convinced that you will do so, to the full measure of your possibilities and your means.

On the occasion of the new year, which approaches in a positive and blessed manner, for us and for all Israel, I address you my brachah*, as also to all the members of your family, that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually.

שלום וברכה!

בנועם נודעתי מהנהלת רשת אהלי יוסף יצחק ליובאוויטש באה"ק ת"ו, על אודות יחסו הטוב אליהם ועזרתו אשר נתן להם בעת מצוא.

גודל ערך הענין בטח למותר להאריך בזה, וידוע אשר החילוק בין השפעה על גדולים ובין השפעה על קטנים, אשר סטי' קטנה מן הדרך הנכון בהשפעה על גדולים, הרי בדרך הרגיל אין זה אלא דבר קטן, משא"כ בחינוך דור הצעיר, הרי עלול, אפילו שינוי קטן לגרום היזק גדול לכשיגדל, האדם עץ השדה ורואים אנו אשר שינוי קטן בגרעין נוגע בעיקרי גידול האילן איכותו וכמותו.

ואם בכל עת מוכרחה היתה שימת לב מיוחדה לחנוך דור הצעיר הרי עאכו"כ בימינו אלה אחרי השמדות הנוראות ל"ע שנשמד חלק חשוב הן בכמותו והן באיכותו מעם ישראל, הרי במילא גדולה כמה פעמים ככה חשיבות כל אחד ואחת מבני ובנות ישראל, ובמילא גדולה ג"כ זכות כל אחד המשתתף בשיפור מצב החינוך ובפרט חינוך כזה המקשר את הדור הצעיר עם מסורת אבותינו ועברו הקיים לנצח גם בהווה וגם בעתיד, והן הם יסוד קיום עם ישראל במשך כל זמן גלותנו עד בוא משיח צדקנו בב"א.

תודה כפולה על עזרתו בעבר ובבקשה גם על להבא לתת עזרתו להנהלת רשת אהלי יוסף יצחק ליובאוויטש בשעת דחקם, ובודאי יעשה בזה ככל יכולתו ואפשריותו.

ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו ולב"ב שיחיו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.
