By the grace of Hashem,

I bless you and greet you,

I duly received your letter of 2/9, in which you set forth to me your biography and inform me of the difficulties you have confronted after the death of your husband. You conclude by saying that your son-in-law, your daughter, and their family are, Hashem be thanked, on the good way. May Hashem grant that you conceive from them much satisfaction, a Jewish satisfaction.

It is the custom, when one davens for someone, to mention his Jewish name, as well as that of his mother. I therefore propose to you to send me the Jewish names of all your relatives, with that of their mother, and I will mention them when I find myself at the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe.

You tell me that you keep a kosher hotel. It is important that you have at your disposal a few sefarim* by which your clients will be able to take cognizance of Torah and acquire yiras shamayim*. Obviously, these sefarim* will be in the language ordinarily spoken by your clients.

It would also be good to have the mezuzos* of your home checked, to assure that they are all kosher. And it is no doubt unnecessary to remind you of the positive custom of virtuous Jewish women, which consists in giving tzedakah* before lighting the candles on erev Shabbos and the festivals. Without doubt, your daughter does likewise.

I formulate the wish that yourself and all your family be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year.

קבלתי מכתבו מיום ג׳ ואתחנן ,ומפני סיבות שונות התעכב המענה.

כותב אודות ביתו בשד׳ ניו־יורק ,שמשפחה ׳צבעונית׳ קנתה בית

בשכנות ,ובמילא אמו תי׳ אינה יודעת מה לעשות עם הבית שלכם.

עד כמה שזכור לי ,כבר עניתי פעם על שאלה דומה ,שיש למכור את

הבית לקונה שיתן את המחיר והתנאים הכי טובים ,אבל בד בבד יש לנצל

את הכסף להשקיע בבית באזור מתאים.

בנוגע לשאלה השני׳ ,שלאמו יש תביעה משפטית ממישהו שנפל

מהמדריגות ותובע $20,000ואתם מכוסים מהביטוח רק במחצית מזה,

ושואל אם כדאי שיקח עורך־דין ,נראה לי שבזה עצמו יש להתייעץ עם

עורך־דין ,כי במקרה כזה ,על פי רוב ,אין בית המשפט נותן את כל סכום

התביעה .מצד שני ,ישנם עורכי-דין שלוקחים על עצמם תיק לא בעד שכר

מסוים אלא על בסיס אחוזים מהסכום שהם זוכים עבור הלקוח שלהם.

בטח יש לו אצל מי לשאול על כך.

בכל אופן עליו למסור לאמו ,שאין לה מה להיות בפאניקה מזה

שמשפחה ׳צבעונית׳ נכנסת בשכנות ,כי גם הם אנשים שאפשר לחיות

בשכנותם ,ולהיפך גם בין לבנים יכול להיות לפעמים כאלו שאינם ראויים.

ומה שאני מציע למכור הבית זהו א( אולי המחירים ירדו ,ב( להרגיע את

העצבים שלה.

שמחתי מאד לשמוע שחזר מאמר בי״ב תמוז והנני מקוה שתמיד ינצל

את הזמן שנמצא במלון ,בו מתאספים יחד אנשים שונים מערים שונות,

למסור להם לכל הפחות את עיקרי תורת החסידות בנוגע לאהבת השם,

אהבת התורה ואהבת ישראל.

השי״ת יצליח לו בהסתדרות טובה ושלאמו יהי׳ הרבה נחת יהודי מכל

הילדים שלה שיחיו.
