By the grace of Hashem,

May this important man receive my greeting,

great Rav and distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem,

renders judgment and directs his community in

uprightness, enthusiastic man of multiple

accomplishments, who illuminates and lights up, whose

words and teaching are positive, who

is issued from an illustrious lineage and whose erudition

is immense, Rav Meir Abuchatzera shlita[1],

great Rabbi of Erfud and its region,

Greetings and blessings,

I received with pleasure your letter of the sixth day of the month of the floods[2] of the year of teshuvah*[3]. Having received your blessing, I will address you mine, in my turn. I therefore reiterate the one that I formulated, on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah and which carried all in itself, wishing you a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually, of a visible and tangible good.

You say that you addressed me a missive announcing to me a good news, that of your nomination to the post of Rav and president of the rabbinical tribunal of Erfud[4] and its region. It seems that this mail did not reach me. In any case, it is always time to signify a blessing.

I therefore wish you to know a considerable success in this new place, of which you become the master. The Alter Rebbe, author of the Tanya and the Shulchan Aruch, explains[5] that the Rav is, properly speaking, the master of the city, not only in the spiritual domain, but also materially.

I thank you very much for your precious gift, a portrait of your grandfather, the great Rav, chassid*, versed in Kabbalah, directing the Jewish communities on the paths of fear of Hashem and of the profound teaching of Torah, Rabbi Yaakov Abuchatzera.

Last point, which is cause of the greatest satisfaction, you announce to me the most important good news, that of the birth, on 24 Elul, of your son, whom you have called David Chai, for long days and good years. I address you all my wishes that you raise him, with your wife, the Rebbetzin, as also his brothers, to Torah, the marriage canopy, and good deeds, with a true largesse of spirit. In their lifetime and in our lifetime, we will merit the complete redemption, by David, our righteous Moshiach, David king of Israel who lives still, Amen.

As you requested, the books of the very holy Alter Rebbe of which we dispose have been addressed to you, by separate parcel, namely the Torah Or, the Likkutei Torah, and the Shulchan Aruch. You will surely confirm to me having received them.

שלום וברכה!

בנועם קבלתי מכתבו מיום ו' לירח האיתנים שנה תשוב"ה, והנה ברך לקחתי וברך לו אשיבנה, ואכפול ברכותי שכתבתי לכהדר"ג לראש השנה, ענינא דכולא בי', לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות בטוב הנראה והנגלה.

מה שכותב כת"ר ששיגר לי מכתב מבשר טוב שנתמנה לראב"ד בעיר ארפוד ואגפי', הנה כנראה לא הגיעני מכתב הנ"ל. אבל ברכה בכל עת זמנה הוא, ואאחל לכהדר"ג שליט"א ברכתי להצלחה מופלגה במקומו החדש לכהן פאר בתור מרא דאתרא, וכידוע פירוש כ"ק אדמו"ר הזקן בעל התניא והשו"ע, שהענין כפשוטו מרא מלשון אדנות ובעלות, שהמרא דאתרא הוא האדון והבעלים בעיר ולא רק ברוחניות אלא גם בגשמיות.

ת"ח ת"ח בעד תשורתו היקרה תמונת פני אביו זקנו הרה"ג והרה"ח המקובל ראש ומנהיג עדות בישראל על מבועי היראה ופנימיות התורה מוהר"ר יעקב זצ"ל אביחצירא.

ואחרון אחרון חביב, היא בשורתו הטובה העולה על כולנה שביום כ"ד לחודש אלול נולד לו בן זכר ונקרא שמו בישראל דוד חי לאורך ימים ושנים טובות, והנני בזה להביע ברכותי שיגדלוהו ביחד עם זוג' הרבנית תחי' ואת אחיו שליט"א לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים מתוך הרחבת הדעת באמת, ובימיו נזכה לגאולה השלימה על ידי דוד משיח צדקנו דוד מלך ישראל חי וקיים, אמן.
