Doubtless you will conduct yourself with largesse toward me by announcing to me good news, on the subject of the state of health of this person and that of all the others, in the spiritual domain.
Our Sages say that the two hundred forty-eight Injunctions correspond to the two hundred forty-eight limbs of the body, and the three hundred sixty-five Prohibitions to its three hundred sixty-five sinews. There is not here only a simple similarity of numbers. In fact, the limbs of the body receive their vitality through the accomplishment of the Injunctions of the Torah, and the sinews are pure and unwithered channels, assuring the circulation of the blood, thanks to the respect of the Prohibitions.
It is clear that the material and the spiritual, in a Jewish man, are not two distinct dimensions, but constitute only one and the same entity, the one depending on the other.
The Alter Rebbe, author of the Tanya and the Shulchan Aruch, indicates, in an allusive manner, that it is so, in his Likkutei Torah, on Parshas Nitzavim, page 45c.
