Greetings and blessings,

I respond to your letter of 16 Cheshvan, in which you inform me of your situation, in the army. You tell me that you are being sent to an officer training course, which begins in Kislev and concludes at the end of Shevat. You therefore do not know what to do, for you were thinking of marrying in Kislev. But, if you do so, you will lose the opportunity which is presenting itself to you of following this course.

If the bride and the parents of the one and the other give their agreement, it would be good, in my opinion, to become engaged on the date that you had fixed for the marriage. If this engagement has already taken place, the parents will gather, on this date, and they will discuss a few points concerning the marriage. This gathering will be joyful, and one will make, on this occasion, a seudas mitzvah*, for example by concluding the study of a Talmudic tractate or by organizing a Melaveh Malkah.

The marriage proper will be celebrated, at a good and fruitful moment, in Adar, which will be positive for us and for all Israel. You will let it be known here, as soon as possible, of the decision you have taken.

With my blessing that you know material and spiritual success, whatever your decision,

במענה על מכתבו מט"ז חשון, בו כותב מצבו בצבא ואשר שולחים אותו לקורס לימוד קצינים המתחיל בחדש כסלו ונגמר בסוף חדש שבט, ונמצא במבוכה כיון שהי' הקס"ד שתהי' חתונתו בכסלו, אבל אז עליו להפס[י]ד את ההזדמנות ללמוד בקורס הנ"ל.

הנה אם הכלה וההורים משני הצדדים מסכימים ע"ז, כדאי לדעתי שהיום שהי' הקס"ד לעשות החתונה יכתבו אז תנאים, ואם לבד הווארט כבר כתבו תנאים ג"כ, יתאספו ההורים משני הצדדים ויתדברו בפרט בענינים הנוגעים להחתונה ותהי' התועדות זו בשמחה, היינו בצירוף סעודת מצוה כמו סיום מסכת, מלוה מלכה וכיו"ב, והחתונה עצמה תהי' בשעה טובה ומוצלחת בחדש אדר הבע"ל ועל כל ישראל לטובה, ובטח יודיע מהחלטתם בזה לכאן בהקדם.
