To the great Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I recall to you the terms of my letter[2] relative to the association of women and young girls of Chabad[3] of your city. It is clear that all the women having formulated different requests here[4], through your intermediary, in the course of these last months, must be members of it. Obviously, each one will participate in it according to her aptitudes, as a simple member or being charged with a certain activity.

It seems to me that what Mrs. Levitanski was saying, some time ago, when she was here, went in this direction. It must be explained that the fact of being a member of the association of women and young girls of Chabad does not impose the adoption of the Siddur of the Alter Rebbe or the wearing, by the husband, of the tefillin* of Rabbeinu Tam[5].

In fact, whoever is conscious that one cannot serve Hashem solely by one's feelings, but that one must also fill one's intellect with His knowledge, can effectively find his place in Chabad. And the lack which one can observe in other domains will not be filled by the fact of not adhering to this association. On the contrary, it is precisely this adherence which will be able to permit the rectifying of the lacks.

Someone came to interview me and, not being able to contain himself, said to me, at the end of our discussion, that "according to the established custom, one transforms a word into a long development." Obviously, he did so without asking for my agreement. By contrast, as far as you are concerned, I authorize you to transform a word into a long development.

...במ"ש במכתב אודות ארגון נשי ובנות חב"ד במחנם הט', הנה בטח שיש לצרף בזה את כל אותן הנשים שפנו ע"י במשך חדשים שעברו בבקשות שונות לכאן, מובן שכאו"א מתאים לתכונתה, אם בתור חבירה סתם או גם באיזה ענין של פעולה ותעמולה, וכמדומה שמרת לעוויטאנסקי דברה על דברים מעין אלה כשהיתה כאן זה מזמן, ולכל אחת יש להדגיש שבארגון נשי ובנות חב"ד הרי אין צריכים לתעודה גמורה שמתפללת דוקא נוסח רבינו הזקן והבעל מניח גם תפילין דר"ת וכו' אלא שכל אלו שמודים הם אשר צריך לעבוד את השי"ת לא רק בהרגש הלב אלא שגם כלי השכל יהיו ממולאים בדעת את ה' הרי בד"מ נכנסות הם בחב"ד, ומה שחסר להן בענינים האחרים, הרי אין עצה למלאות את החסרון ע"י אי הכניסה בהאגוד[ה], אלא אדרבה בהכניסה בהאגודה הנה ימלאו גם החסרון במקצועות השונות שבהם.

שמעתי מאחד שבא לקחת אצלי אינטערוויו, ולא יוכל להתאפק והודיעני תיכף בגמר שיחתינו, שהמנהג הוא, פון א ווארט מאכט מען א קווארט, והנ"ל עשה זה כמובן בלי נטילת רשות, אבל בנוגע למ"ש בהצעתי לבנות ונשי חב"ד הנה הרשות בידו לעשות פון א ווארט א קווארט.
