Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of 26 Tishrei, and my response was delayed, for various reasons.

You question me about your study at the yeshivah* and also about your training in accounting, which will permit you, subsequently, to earn your living. You solicit my opinion regarding this training.

Nevertheless, I observe that an essential point is missing from your letter. Since when have you been studying accounting, and how much more time will it take you to complete these studies?

In a general manner, it is well clear that the young years are much more precious than those that come afterward. It is then that one can sow what one will reap during the rest of one's life. And a single seed can give birth to a large plant or an entire tree.

If it takes you only a little time to complete your training, and if the subjects which you study do not clash with Jewish faith, you will conduct your studies to their term, since you have already begun them and since such is the will of your mother. By contrast, if you must still devote a long period and several hours per day to it, you will question yourself on this subject and will make the comparison between what you gain and what you lose, in this way.

May Hashem grant you success in all that concerns you, materially and spiritually.

קבלתי מכתבו מכ׳׳ו תשרי ,ובשל סיבות שונות התעכב המענה שלי:

במכתבו שואל אודות לימודיו בישיבה ,וכן בנושא ראיית חשבון,

במטרה שזה יהי׳ אחר-כך כלי לפרנסה ושואל דעתי בזה; האם ימשיך

לימודיו בהנהלת חשבונות.

אינו כותב במכתבו את העיקר ,כמה זמן כבר למד הנהלת חשבונות

וכמה זמן עוד נדרש לו כדי לסיים זאת,

בכלל ,מובן מאליו שבשנות הנערות הזמן הרבה יותר יקר מאשר

בשנים המאוחרות יותר ,כי מה שנאסף בימי הנעורים ,הוא כזריעה

לשנים המאוחרות ,שמגרעין אחד יכולים לצמוח צמחים רבים או עץ

שלם.

אם הזמן הנדרש עד לסיום אינו ארוך ,וגם אינו קשור בנושאים

כאלו שהם בסתירה ליראת שמים ,הרי כיון שכבר למד זאת במשך זמן,

וזה גם רצונה של אמו תחי׳ ,כדאי לסיים זאת ,אבל אם עדיין צריך

להקדיש לזה זמן רב ושעות רבות ביום ,עליו לחשוב על כך היטב ולחשב

את השכר וההפסד בזה ,והשי״ת יסייעו שיצליח בעניניו בגשמיות

וברוחניות.
