Greetings and blessings,

I respond to your letter of 13 Cheshvan, in which you describe to me the situation of the yeshivah*. I greatly regret that the number of its students is not increasing. It is inconceivable that the fitting effort and a zealous search would not permit discovering attentive students who will enroll in your yeshivah*.

Our Sages explain, in different texts, that all the efforts are justified, even for a single child. How much more must they be multiplied, when they concern many children. Indeed, who knows? Tractate Yevamos 62 remarks that "you cannot know which will be the more skilled," and tractate Bava Basra 91a adds that "one, out of sixty, demonstrates zeal."

You will therefore conceive, all together, the plan of an action of diffusion, in this domain, and Hashem will give you success.

You evoke the destruction of an oven[1], and you have had knowledge of the existence of a letter of the Rebbe Rashab[2] on this subject. I send you a copy of it. It is found, indeed, in a collection of his manuscripts. Its content permits establishing that he is its author, although it has been published in the name of the Tzemach Tzedek, in the Tzror HaChaim, on p. 30, appearing in Bilgoraj, in 5673[3].

To determine whether a precaution introduced by the testament of R. Y. H.[4] is maintained when it concerns a mitzvah, you will consult the Shivim Temarim, in its fifth part, and the references that are indicated there.

במענה על מכתבו מי"ג חשון בו כותב ע"ד מצב הישיבה, מצטער אני במאד על שאין מתרבה גבולם בתלמידים, והרי אי אפשרי הוא שבהשתדלות המתאימה ובחיפוש במרץ לא יש למצוא ב... ובסביבתה תלמידים מקשיבים שיכנסו לישיבתם, וידוע בכ"מ בדרז"ל שאפילו בשביל תינוק אחד יש לעשות כו"כ השתדלויות ובפרט בשביל כמה תינוקות, ואין אתנו יודע עד מה וכמסופר בש"ס - יבמות ס"ב - כי אינך יודע איזה יוכשר, ובמס' ב"ב צ"א ע"א, חד דמשיתין זריז, ובטח יטכסו עצה כולם יחד איך לגשת לעבודת תעמולה בזה והשי"ת יצליחם...

מ"ש במכתבו בענין נתיצת תנור, ששמעו שיש בזה מכתב מכ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) נ"ע, הנה מוסג"פ העתק מכתב זה, שנמצא בביכל ע"ש כ"ק אדמו"ר הנ"ל, וכנראה מתוכנו אף [ש]נדפס משם הצמח צדק (בספר צרור החיים ע' ל' - בילגוריי תרע"ג).
