To the chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal

needs, Rav Yosef ben Maimon[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I received in its time your letter of 5 Kislev. My secretary does not know Spanish, and I must therefore reply to you in lashon hakodesh*. You will doubtless understand the content of my letter.

Some time ago, my emissary[2], the great Rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Binyamin Eliyahu Gorodetski, was here, and we conversed regarding the university kosher* dining hall in Madrid.

For about ten days now, Rav Gorodetski has returned to Paris. From there, he will doubtless do everything in his power to remedy the present situation. If, in the meantime, new elements arise, you will kindly communicate them directly to Rav Gorodetski, in order to go more quickly. Then you will send a copy here.

I hope that you and your friends gathered together on Chanukah*, in order to recall the miracle of this festival, which occurred in that era. Even at the present hour, it is important that the children of Israel resist, with the firmest determination, those who wish to make them "forget Your Torah*," make them transgress "the decrees of Your Will."

In the end, Hashem grants success, salvation, and deliverance to all those who follow His ways.

בעתו קבלתי מכתבו מיום ה' כסלו העבר, וכיון שאין מזכירי יכול לכתוב בשפה השפנית, הנני מוכרח לכתוב לו בלשון הקדש אשר בטח יבין תוכן מכתבי, והוא:

כאשר הי' פה זה לא כבר, בא-כחי הרה"ג הרה"ח אי"א נו"נ עוסק בצ"צ וכו' מוהר"ר בנימין אלי' שי' גאראדעצקי דברתי אתו עוד הפעם בהנוגע למצב בית האכל של הסטודענטען במאדריד, וזה כעשרה ימים שחזר הרב גאראדעצקי לפאריז, ובטח יעשה שמה מה שתלוי בו לתקן המצב, ואם בינתים נתחדשו איזה פרטים בזה, מטובו להודיע אודות זה ישר להרב גאראדעצקי, למען למהר את הדבר. ולשלוח העתקה לכאן.

אקווה אשר במשך ימי החנוכה נתקבצו הוא וחביריו יחד ונדברו אודות הנס של חנוכה, בימים ההם, ואשר גם עתה מוכרח הדבר שבני ובנות ישראל יעמדו חזק נגד כל אלו שרוצים להשכיח את תורת השם יתברך ולהעבירם מחוקי רצונו יתברך, וסוף סוף מצליח השם יתברך ועושה תשועה ופורקן גדול לכל אלו ההולכים בדרכיו.
