Greetings and blessings,

I received with pleasure your letter, by which you inform me that you have established a Tanya* class in your shul*, and that you teach it according to your understanding, to take up the expression appearing in your correspondence. This is a merit that is immeasurable and inestimable, since you draw the children of Israel close to the study of Chassidus*, which is the inner teaching of the Torah. And the assurance is given to us that one who teaches it and emphasizes its value can, in this way, obtain an increased blessing in all his needs.

You say that you teach it according to your understanding. You know what is written and what we have many times heard from my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us. The Tanya* is defined as the Written Law of Chabad* Chassidus*. In fact, its study is indeed comparable to that of the Written Law, which the greatest Sage cannot grasp exhaustively, and with which the smallest child begins his study of the Torah.

Our Sages say that "as soon as a child begins to speak, his father teaches him Torah." The same therefore holds for the Tanya*, which each one studies according to his understanding, possessing his own perception, his specific place.

There is therefore no reason to be discouraged about it, whatever level one has attained. Indeed, the greatest Sage himself does not have an exhaustive understanding of it. May Hashem grant that you continue this study, for yourself and for those who listen to you, and may He permit it to lead to practice and to concrete application.

When I find myself near the holy tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, I will mention your name and that of your wife, for the satisfaction of all your needs, according to what is written in your letter.

P.S.: I send you a kuntres* that appeared on the occasion of the third hilula* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. You will surely be able to present its content to those who receive your teaching. May Hashem grant you success in everything.

בנועם קבלתי את מכתבו בו מודיע ע"ד התיסדות שיעור לימוד תניא בבית הכנסת שלו, ושלומד עמהם - כפי שכותב במכתבו - לפי שכלו, וגודל הזכות בזה שמקרב את בנ"י ללימוד דא"ח פנימיות התורה אין לשער ואין להעריך, ומובטחים אנו בהמשכת תוספת ברכה עי"ז בכל עניניו של הלומד ומעורר ללימוד הנ"ל.

ומה שכותב - לפי שכלו, הנה ידוע מה שכתוב וששמענו גם בע"פ כמה פעמים מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אשר ספר התניא הנקרא תורה שבכתב של חסידות חב"ד, הוא ע"ד לימוד תורה שבכתב, שאפילו הגדול שבגדולים אינו יכול לרדת לסוף תכליתה, ואפילו הקטן שבקטנים יכול להתחיל ללמוד בה, וכמרז"ל קטן משיתחיל לדבר אביו מלמדו תורה וכו', וה"ה בלימוד התניא, שכל אחד לומד לפי שכלו, כי לכל אחד יש אחיזה ומקום בו, ואין שייך בזה נפילת רוח באיזה דרגא שימצא את עצמו, כי אפילו הגדול שבגדולים עדיין לא בא עד תכליתו, והשי"ת יזכהו להמשיך בלימוד זה בשביל עצמו ובשביל שומעיו ושיהי' הלימוד ע"מ לשמור לעשות ולקיים.

כשאהי' על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אזכירו ואת זוגתו שיחיו להמצטרך להם וכפי שכתב במכתבו.
