By the grace of Hashem,

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of 23 Shevat, in which you indicate to me briefly in what manner you entered the Lubavitch yeshivah* of Lod. You conclude by telling me that you are now fifteen and a half years old, and you ask me whether you must leave the yeshivah* and learn a trade or not.

You had the merit to enter the yeshivah* in a marvelous manner, in your own words. Even more, you find yourself in a yeshivah* where one studies both the revealed part of the Torah and Chassidus*. You should therefore understand that Hashem comes to your aid and guides you toward material and spiritual good.

In order to test you, the idea of abandoning your studies is inspired in you from time to time. You must set aside these thoughts and devote yourself to the study of the revealed part of the Torah and of Chassidus*, with eagerness and fervor.

It is of course evident that He Who feeds all beings will provide your own parnasah* when the time comes. You must not preoccupy yourself with this at your age, prepare yourself from now to earn your living, while it depends solely on the Holy One, blessed be He.

Binding yourself to His Torah and His mitzvos* is a marvelous means of earning one's parnasah* more easily when the time comes. By contrast, leaving the tent of study prematurely is an obstacle to it. May Hashem give you the merit to study Torah with yiras shamayim*, and may you know success in this matter.

קבלתי מכתבו מכ"ג שבט, בו כותב בקצרה סדר הדברים איך שנכנס לתו"ת בלוד ומסיים שהוא עתה בן ט"ו וחצי שנה, ושאלתו אם לצאת מהישיבה להתלמד אומנות או לא.

והנה פשוט הדבר אשר כיון שבאופן פלא וכפי שכותב במכתבו, זכה לכנוס לישיבה ובפרט לישיבה כזו שלומדים בה הן נגלה והן חסידות, הרי צריך הוא להבין איך שמסייעים בידו מלמעלה להעמידו באופן הטוב לפניו בגשמיות וגם ברוחניות, ומובן ג"כ שכדי לנסותו נופלים לו לפעמים מחשבות להפסיק לימודו, ולכן צריך לבטלם ולהתמסר להשיעורים בנגלה ובחסידות בהתמדה ושקידה גדולה, ופשיטא אשר הזן ומפרנס את הכל הנה כשיבוא הזמן וצריך יהי' לפרנס את עצמו, ימציא לו ג"כ את פרנסתו, ואין לבלבל את עצמו בגיל שלו להתעסק עתה בהכנת הפרנסה שתלוי אך ורק בהקב"ה ובמילא הקישור בתורתו ובמצותיו הם עצה נפלאה להקל לאחר זמן את הפרנסה, ויציאה מאהלה של תורה קודם הזמן מפרעת בזה, והשי"ת יזכהו ויצליחו לתלמוד תורה ביראת שמים.
