To the great Rav, distinguished chassid who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

A) With delay I acknowledge receipt of your three letters, of erev Chanukah, of the 9th and the 18th of Shevat, with the request for a brachah enclosed, which was read, at an auspicious moment, near the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit shall protect us.

B) I was pleased to learn that the study of the various tractates of the Talmud was divided up on this 24th of Teves, the date of the hilula* of the Alter Rebbe. I likewise took note with satisfaction of your public shiurim*. As you know, our Sages say that "to whoever adds [2], more is added [3]."

C) You tell me that it will be possible for you to build a mikveh* in accordance with the opinion of the Rebbe Rashab [4]. If it is certain that this decision will be carried out, you will surely receive assistance from the association of Chabad chassidim in Eretz HaKodesh*, in the amount you mention, that is, approximately one hundred and fifty Israeli pounds.

D) No doubt you are continuing your teaching of Chassidus in the shul* you mention in your letter.

You ask me about persons residing outside of Eretz Yisrael* who visit that country with the intention of leaving it afterward. You ask whether they should observe the second day of yom tov*. You told them to adopt the conduct of those who live in the place where they are spending the yom tov, that is, in Eretz Yisrael, basing yourself on the Shulchan Aruch* of the Alter Rebbe, second edition, chapter 1, paragraph 8, which contradicts the Mishmeres Shalom* of the Rebbe of Keidanov, chapter 32. You also mention the first chapter of the Shaar HaKollel*.

We must hold to the instructions of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, head of our generation [5], whose merit shall protect us. He instructed several residents of Eretz Yisrael who had come here with the intention of returning home afterward to keep the custom of Eretz Yisrael. One may conclude that the same is true in the other direction [6].

ג) נהניתי ממ"ש ע"ד חלוקת הש"ס בכ"ד טבת העבר יום הילולא דרבינו הזקן וכן אודות לימודו ברבים, וידוע פסק רז"ל כל המוסיף מוסיפין לו.

ד) מ"ש שיוכל לסדר מקוה טהרה מתאים להוראת כ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) נ"ע, הנה אם בטוח הדבר שיבוא לפועל, הרי בטח תעזור בזה אגו"ח ת"ו בהסכום שמזכיר היינו לערך ק"ן לא"י.

ה) בטח ממשיך בלימודו דא"ח בביה"נ שמזכיר במכתבו...

בשאלתו בבני חו"ל הבאים לאה"ק ת"ו ודעתם לחזור איך ינהגו ביו"ט שני, ושהוא הורה להם שינהגו כמנהג מקומם עתה היינו כבני אה"ק ת"ו ע"פ המבואר בשו"ע רבינו מהדו"ת סי' א' סעיף ח' ודלא כמ"ש במשמרת שלום סי' לב - להרה"צ

מקיידאנוב - ומציין ג"כ למ"ש בשער הכולל פרק א'.

הנה אנו אין לנו אלא הוראת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אשר הורה לכמה מבני ארץ ישראל שבאו לכאן ודעתם היתה לחזור, שינהגו כמנהג בני ארץ ישראל ומובן אשר במילא כן הוא הדין ג"כ להיפך.
