To the distinguished chassid who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I have received your letter of Tuesday of Parshas Yisro, which was a reply to mine. I would like to know whether you have obtained an answer from the United Jewish Appeal [2] to your telegraphic and written request, and if so, what that answer is.

One must know, if one wishes to come to the aid of our Holy Land, that one must strengthen there everything connected with Torah and mitzvos. One cannot pretend to be wiser than Hashem. For it is quite clear that we were not banished from there by the will of the Romans or of Vespasian, but rather because "on account of our sins we were exiled from our land."

Our holy Torah states, at the end of Parshas Acharei, that Eretz Yisrael does not tolerate sin. Whoever wishes to help it and truly desires its good, as well as that of the Yidden who reside there, must above all act in this direction and not allow himself to be convinced that other concerns are more important, or even of equal value.

To build a house and maintain it, one must first lay solid foundations for it. If those foundations are not strong enough or are not suitable, chas veshalom*, the larger the building, the more unusable and even harmful they become.

One must avoid speaking negatively of Eretz Yisrael, except when it is a matter of acting concretely. It is therefore difficult for me to say more, especially since this brief exposition will be sufficient to convince you, of which I am persuaded.

You write to me that you wish to send an electric saw to Kfar Chabad, but you would like the transport costs to be covered. I would like to know approximately how much these amount to and whether an official document is necessary for the importation of this saw into Eretz HaKodesh*.

I wish you a freilichen* Purim. Even before this yom tov*, you will exert yourself to strengthen everything connected to Torah and mitzvos. One can never consider that one has definitively fulfilled one's obligation in this matter. If one sincerely desires it, Hashem grants hatzlachah*, and one performs joyful mitzvos in a joyful manner.

קבלתי מכתבו מג׳ יתרו ,מענה למכתבי אליו ,ומעניין אותי לדעת,

האם קיבל מענה לפנייתו במברק ובמכתב למגבית היהודית ,ומהו תוכן

המענה שלהם.

אך מוכרחים לדעת ,שכאשר רוצים לסייע לארצנו הקדושה

מוכרחים לעשות זאת ע״י שמחזקים שם את הענינים של תורה ומצוות.

שכן ,אי אפשר להיות יותר חכמים מהקב״ה ,ואם הוא --ב״ה -שילח

אותנו מארצנו ,לא ]הי׳ זה[ משום שכך רצו הרומאים ואספסינוס ,אלא

רק מפני חטאינו גלינו מארצנו ,וארץ ישראל היא ארץ כזו ,כפי שכתוב

בתורתנו הקדושה )סוף פ׳ אחרי( ,שאיננה סובלת עבירות .לכן כל מי

שרוצה לסייע באמת ,ורוצה בטובתה האמיתית של ארצנו הקדושה

ובטובתם האמיתית של היהודים הנמצאים שם ,לכל לראש צריך לוודא

פרט זה ולא להניח להשתכנע שישנם דברים יותר חשובים או לפחות

שווי-ערך .בהחזקת בית וקיומו ,הדבר הראשון הוא יסוד בריא ,ואם

ח״ו היסוד הוא לא טוב ולא מתאים ,הרי ככל שהבנין גדול יותר ,הרי

לא זו בלבד שאין זה מביא תועלת ,אלא זה לגמרי להיפך ח״ו .כיון שעל

ארץ ישראל אין לדבר דיבורים לא טובים ,אלא אם כן זה נוגע לפועל

ממש ]לגופו[ של ענין ,לכן קשה לי להאריך בזה .ובפרט שהנני בטוח

שיספיק לו גם הקיצור בזה.

כותב במכתבו ,אודות המשור החשמלי שיש לו לשלוח עבור כפר

חב״ד ,אלא שיש לשלם את ההובלה .הייתי רוצה לדעת כמה בערך הוא

הסכום שצריכה לעלות ההובלה ,וגם האם צריך רשיון כדי להכניס את

המשור לאה״ק ת״ו.

הנני מאחל לו פורים שמח ,ועד פורים ינצל את הזמן גם כדי לחזק
