Greetings and blessings,

I have just received your letter from the eve of last Shabbos*. I am surprised that you do not confirm to me that you have received mine, wishing you a good Pesach* festival. Perhaps it was delayed.

As for your questions:

A) You mention the cataract operation that the doctors recommend to you. You speak of doctors, in the plural. No doubt, among them, there are at least two specialists. In such a case, there is nothing to fear, for such operations have become very common, and the precautions to take are well known.

You may conclude from this that there is no reason to travel to another country to undergo this operation, and this for various reasons. As to the choice of the doctor, you know the account that my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us, related to me. At the bris* of one of his grandsons, the Tzemach Tzedek* was asked whether one should choose an older mohel*, well versed in its inner meaning, or another, younger one, with more limited knowledge.

The Tzemach Tzedek* answered that one should choose the younger, for only the concrete act[1] is what matters.

Hashem* will therefore allow this doctor to bring you a complete healing.

B) You tell me that a chassid* has copied the manuscripts.[2] As soon as I learned of their existence, I asked the chassidim* whether it is possible to verify their content, to study it, and to establish an index of it.[3] Perhaps it is to this that you are alluding.

זה עתה נתקבל מכתבו מעש"ק העבר, ולפלא שאינו מאשר קבלת מכתבי בברכת חג הפסח, ואולי נתאחר בדרכו.

ובמה דשאילנא קדמיכון:

א) בנוגע להנתוח של קאטארעק ואשר הרופאים מאיצים לעשות, הנה כותב "שהרופאים" לשון רבים, הרי בודאי עכ"פ שנים מומחים בכללם, ובמילא אין מה להרהר בזה - איבערטראכטען - כי נתוחים כאלו כבר נעשו דבר הרגיל ביותר, וידוע למדי הזהירות הצריכה בזה, ומזה מובן ג"כ שלכאורה אין כדאית הנסיעה למדינה אחרת בשביל זה ומפני כמה טעמים. ובאיזה רופא יבחר, הנה ידוע סיפור ששמעתי מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, שבברית מילה של אחד מנכדי הצ"צ שהי' בחיי הצ"צ, ושאלו את הצ"צ באיזה מוהל לבחור, אם זה הבא בשנים ויודע הכוונות וכו' או את הצעיר אבל פשוט הוא ביותר, וענה הצ"צ שיקחו את הצעיר, כי העיקר הוא הבפו"מ, והשי"ת ישלח דברו וירפאהו ע"י איש פלוני רפו"ש...

ד) מה שמזכיר שא' מאנ"ש ישב ויעתיק מהביכלעך, הנה זה מכבר כשנודעתי ע"ד הביכלעך בקשתי את אנ"ש שאם יש אפשריות לברר תוכן הביכלעך שיתעסקו בזה ויערכו מפתחות, ואולי לזה כוונת כת"ר שי'.
