To the directors of the Yeshivah Lubavitch of Montreal,

may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I received with pleasure your letter of the 3rd of Sivan with what was enclosed, namely the report on the studies of the talmidim* of the day classes. I am surprised not to have yet received the other report you mention in your letter, the one concerning the talmidim* who also remain during the afternoon.

It is surely unnecessary to specify to you how important it is to make use of the summer[1], a period during which the talmidim* are freed from their other studies[2], in order to strengthen and encourage their yiras Shamayim*. True, the usual reply is that these talmidim* are then tired, at the end of the school year, that they go on vacation, that they have difficulty enduring the heat, and that all this dampens the ardor of the talmidim* and of the administration.

I do not wish to return to all this once again. I will simply say that this is only a pretext. For in all the places where it has been decided to make full use of the summer days, success has been known, despite all these objections. And this success has been so great that I did not need, the following year, to issue a call to action, after one had been able to verify concretely the value it presents.

With my brachah* of success in your sacred mission, which will bring increased success and fulfillment to each of you, including in your personal concerns,

בנועם קבלתי מכתבם מג' סיון עם המצורפים אליו, דו"ח מלימוד של התלמידים במחלקות יומיים. ולפלא שלא נתקבל עד עתה המשך - כמו שמזכירים במכתבם - בנוגע התלמידים הלומדים אחר הצהרים...

בטח למותר להעיר על הנחיצות הכי גדולה לנצל את ימי הקיץ שהתלמידים חפשים אז מלימודים אחרים, לתוספת התעוררות והתחזקות ובפרט של יראת שמים בכל התלמידים, אף שגם בזה ישנו תירוץ מהמוכן שהתלמידים עייפים הם מלימודם כל השנה וגם נוסעים הם לחוץ לעיר וגם החמימות קשה לסבול, שבד"מ פועל זה על המרץ של התלמידים וההנהלה כו' וכו'. ואין ברצוני לחזור עוד הפעם על כל האמור לעיל, רק אדגיש שאין זה אלא תירוץ, והראי' שבכל המקומות שהחליטו ובפועל לנצל את ימי הקיץ, הצליחו בזה למרות כל הטענות הנ"ל. והצליחו עד כדי כך שלשנה הבאה לא הי' צריך שאעורר אותם עוד הפעם, כי בעצמם ראו שגם בגשמיות תועלת היא.

בברכת הצלחה בעבודתם בקדש ושזה ימשיך תוספת ברכה והצלחה לכאו"א מהם גם בעניניו הפרטיים.
