Greetings and blessings,

A) I was pleased to receive your express letter of erev Shabbos*, in which you tell me that you are at last observing the positive effects of your presence in the city. It is doubtless unnecessary to emphasize to you that what is not yet tangible is surely much more important than what you see with your physical eyes.

May Hashem grant you success, so that you may also observe what you cannot yet see.

B) You tell me that you have difficulty earning your livelihood. You surely remember the statement of our Sages that providing a person's parnassah* is harder than splitting the Yam Suf*.

I am, nevertheless, surprised that you do not give me more details on this. You were looking for a suitable place to found a Talmud Torah*. What of it? When the time came, you also wanted to establish a shul* at the other end of your city.

No doubt you will give me all these details when you come here.

C) You ask me whether we have the practice of saying Tachanun* on the hilula* of a tzaddik*. You doubtless know that we indeed say it on the 10th of Shevat[1].

Once, I asked my father-in-law, the Rebbe, about this[2]. He replied to me: "Is there a better time than these days for formulating one's request to Hashem?"

D) Concerning the second and third paragraphs of your letter, we will speak of them in person, when you are here, since you are coming next week.

E) I do not know who they are upon whom you exercise your influence in your city. Nevertheless, it would be good to explain to them, in general, what the tziyun* of the leader of the generation represents. The Gemara* explains it allusively, by noting that "Kalev[3] went to the tziyun* of the Avos*." One can understand that he was thereby saved from the plot…[4], and moreover, that he inherited the portion[5] that belonged to them.

Accordingly, these people must also delegate you to this tziyun*, entrusting you with their requests for brachah*, since they cannot personally go to the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, may his merit protect us.

You will surely find the words to explain all this to them. You will also consult Iggeres HaKodesh*, ch. 28, and its commentary.

F) I am sending you the kuntres* and the notes that have appeared for the festival of liberation of the 12-13 of Tammuz, which is approaching, as well as a copy of my letter addressed to the N'shei uBnos Chabad* organization.

You will surely disseminate its content in the broadest circles and in the most appropriate manner.

נהניתי לקבלת מכתבו המהיר מעש"ק בו כותב אשר סו"ס הנה גם הוא רואה פעולות טובות ע"י שהותו בעירו עתה, ובטח למותר להעירו אשר אם נראה כ"כ בעיני בשר הרי הרבה יותר נמצא במציאות שאין נראה עדיין והשי"ת יצליחו שגם נסתר זה יראה בגלוי.

ב) מ"ש שקשה פרנסתו. (ובטח לא נשמט מזכרונו מרז"ל שמזונותיו של אדם קשים כקרי"ס) הנה לפלא שאינו כותב כל פרטים מה הי' סוף דבר בחיפוש מקום מתאים לת"ת ובמשך הזמן גם לביהכ"נ בחלק האחר של עירו, ובודאי ימלא בזה בבואו הנה.

ג) במה ששאלני מאז אם נוהגים אצלינו לומר תחנון ביום הסתלקות של צדיקים.

הנה בטח ידוע לו שגם ביו"ד שבט אומרים תחנון, ופעם שאלתי את כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, וענני, ווען איז נאך אזא גוטע צייט אויף אויסבעטען ווי אין די טעג.

ד) בסעיף ב' וג' דמכתבו, כיון שבא לכאן בשבוע הבע"ל הרי נמשיך בזה בבואו הנה.

ה) איני יודע אופי אותם שהשפיע עליהם בעירו, אבל בכלל הי' צריך לבאר להם הענין של אהל צדיק הדור ומרומז ג"כ בגמרא במרז"ל דכלב נשתטח על קברי אבות, אשר משם מובן שעי"ז ניצול מעצת כו' ואדרבה עוד ירש חלקם, אשר לכן גם עליהם ליפות את כחו ולתת לו פתקאות וכיו"ב, כיון שאין ביכולתם לבקר בעצמם על ציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, ובטח ימצא אותיות המתאימות להסבירם בזה, ויעויין ג"כ אגה"ק סי' כ"ח וביאורו.

ו) מוסג"פ הקונטרס והרשימה שהו"ל לחג הגאולה י"ב וי"ג תמוז הבע"ל וכן העתק מכתבי כללי לאגודת נשי ובנות חב"ד, אשר בטח יפרסם תוכנם בחוגים היותר רחבים ובאופן המתאים.
