Greetings and blessings,
I am replying to your letter of the 9th of Tammuz, in which you tell me that you have obtained a diploma as shochet* for poultry. You surely possess the requisite knowledge, and you ask me whether you should make this your profession.
It is indeed a good initiative. It would be good for you also to train in the shechitah* of cattle.
Hashem will come to your aid, and you will put into practice the teaching of our Sages that shechitah* is a means of drawing[1]. And this lesson can also be put into practice in its spiritual dimension, by drawing one's own nefesh habahamis* and that of one's surroundings into the reshus hayachid*[2], that of the One Hashem.
Thus, it[3] will become one with the blood and flesh of the person. And it is said that "you[4] are called adam," in the likeness[5] of the Almighty, Who sits upon the Heavenly Throne.
In answer to your question, if you observe the practice instituted by Ezra*[6] and if you have a fixed time for the study of Chassidus*, you will begin, without making a vow about it, to wear the tefillin* of Rabbeinu Tam*[7].

במענה על מכתבו מיום ט' תמוז, בו כותב שקבל קבלה על שחיטת עופות (ובטח ישנו אצלו גם הודעה) ושואל אם יתעסק בזה.
הנה נכון הדבר והי' ג"כ מהראוי שיחפש דרך איך להשתלם גם בשחיטת גסות, והשי"ת יצליחו לקיים מרז"ל אין ושחט אלא ומשך לקיים גם ברוחניות היינו להמשיך את נה"ב שלו וגם בסביבתו לרשות היחיד יחידו של עולם שתוכל להתהפך לדם ובשר כבשר האדם אתם קרויים אדם על שם אדמה לעליון אדם העליון שעל הכסא.
במענה על שאלתו - אם נזהר בטבילת עזרא ויש לו שיעורים קבועים בתורת החסידות יתחיל, בל"נ, להניח תפלין דר"ת.
