Igrot Kodesh · Letter 217 — Personal request to help rescue his mother from Soviet Russia

To the great Rav,* honorable Chassid* who fears Hashem,* Rav Y. Zuber,[2]

I greet and bless you.

I have already replied to your letter of the 2nd of Shevat,* and a package of books was also sent to you. You will surely confirm having received it.

I would now like to make a personal request. My mother is currently in Russia,* and we very strongly wish that she come here,[3] or else emigrate to Eretz Yisrael,* where my brother resides. It is important, in any case, that she leave Russia as soon as possible.

A long time is needed to obtain an entry visa for this country or for Eretz Yisrael.* Perhaps you can obtain for her an entry visa to your country, until the necessary steps are completed to bring her here or to allow her entry into Eretz Yisrael.*

You no doubt know that the state of mind prevailing there[4] is such that you must yourself take the initiative in this matter, for my mother cannot do so herself. There is no need to say more.

It is clear that all expenses occasioned by these steps will be at my charge.

To expedite matters, I am sending you, enclosed herewith, her name, her date of birth, and all necessary particulars.

I would also ask you to send her, at my expense, a package of Matzot* and Pesach* food.[5] I thank you in advance.

I have been told that Mr. Hasdan is surprised that I have not replied to his letter. Yet, since I have been here, I have never received a single letter from him.

I therefore await your reply, and I conclude by sending you my blessing for immediate Teshuvah,* immediate redemption.

מענה על מכתבו מב' שבט כבר נשלח לו וכן חבילת ספרים ובטח יאשר קבלתם במועדם.

ועל של עתה באתי בבקשה פרטית: אמי מורתי תי' נמצאת עתה ברוסיא. ואדיר חפצנו שתבוא לכאן (או לא"י ששם דר אחי יחי'). והעיקר שבהקדם היותר אפשרי תוכל לנסוע מרוסיא. קבלת רשיון הכניסה לכאן או לא"י דורש זמן הרבה ביותר. ואולי יש איזה אפשריות לקבל בעדה רשיון הכניסה למדינתם, עד שיגמרו כל ההשתדלויות כאן ובא"י. ובטח ידוע לו אשר מפני הרוח השורר שם, הנה כל ענין זה צ"ל נעשה באתערותא שלהם ולא מצד אמי תי' כלל, וד"ל.

מובן מעצמו אשר כל ההוצאות הכרוכות בזה על חשבוני הם.

- לקצר בהזמן הנני כותב כאן גם שמה, שנותי' וכו'.

כן אבקשו לשלוח לה - על חשבוני - חבילת מצות ומאכלי פסח. וגודל ת"ח עכ"ז מראש.

שמעתי אשר מר חסדן מתפלא על אשר לא עניתי על מכתבו אלי. אבל משך כל זמן היותי פה לא הגיעני ממנו שום מכתב.

למענהו אחכה ואסיים בברכת לאלתר לתשובה לאלתר לגאולה.
